My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Khalipa" is an enormous (105 lbs) 19-mos old (born Aug 1, 2015) neutered male GSD who is loving, playful and energetic--a true gentle giant.

Khalipa is friendly with strangers, but is protective of his people and space. He barks loudly when people come to the door, but once inside they're fine with him. The woman who evaluated Khalipa had this to say about him: "He leaned against my legs as I was standing talking with Josh and his finance'." Khalipa is on alert when his people are walking him on leash and others approach from behind. Khalipa is good with young kids and presently lives w/ a 6-wk old baby who he loves and is paternal towards.

Khalipa is great w/ other dogs, including small dogs. (He lives w/ a Shiba Inu mix.) He likes to play rough, but that's what 105 lb, 19-mos old GSDs do.

Khalipa is reportedly good w/ cats. His owner states that he likes them and has slept w/ them before--but there is no cat in Khalipa's home. I will consider adopters with cats, but will definitely give preference to those without cats--everything else being equal.

Khalipa is fully housetrained and lives in an apartment. He has not received any formal training, but obeys several commands and is "incredibly intelligent." The woman who evaluated Khalipa noted that "He's eager to please", and that's the key to a trainable dog. He usually sleeps on a dog bed next to his owners' bed.

Khalipa loves to play tug-of-war, keep away (with a ball or toy in his mouth), and fetch. He has many favorite toys and often brings one to bed with him. He sometimes will pick a toy off the shelves at a pet store and refuse to leave without it; he then sleeps with that particular toy for months. Khalipa also loves to swim--he has swam in deep streams and in Lake Tahoe.

Khalipa's owners Josh & Leah obtained him in April 2016 from a woman who purchased him from a breeder but probably got in over her head. (Both of Khalipa's parents are AKC registered--Khalipa is not.) Josh and Leah love Khalipa very much--there's no doubt about that. However, they too got in over their head. They are both graduate students, both work, and now they have a 6-wk old baby. They no longer have the time to take Khalipa on the fun outdoor adventures that he loves. They want the best for Khalipa, so are unselfishly seeking a new home for him.
GSRSV has evaluated Khalipa and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Khalipa through its adoption program while his owners continue to care for him.
Khalipa is located in Reno. His adoption fee is $260.
