My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Honey is a female 6 month old Pitbull Terrier mix (DOB 10-19-16). She currently weighs approx. 35 lbs., won't get too much bigger, but is all muscle. Honey is extremely sweet and very playful. She would be considered a high energy dog and would love to find a family that is active and would include her in their activities. Honey is in a foster home with four other dogs, both large and small, and gets along with everyone. When she meets a new dog, she is a bit self-conscious and likes to pretend she's extremely tough (but she's really a big marshmallow). Once she gets that out of her system all she wants to do is PLAY, PLAY, PLAY. She has an affinity for empty water bottles and likes to prance around like she's holding a diamond in her mouth! Honey is very clown-like and is entertaining to watch. Her energy can get the best of her at times and we are working on her trying to contain that instead of her bouncing 2 feet off the ground onto people or launching herself from across the room at full speed like a pitbull torpedo just to sit on your lap. Honey is very smart and she enjoys being trained. For as spastic as she can be at times, she has an incredible amount of focus and responds very well to direction. Honey really needs a family that will continue her training and work off her energy so she can be the very best dog she can be. Honey is also in a home with children, who she adores. The kids coming home from school is the highlight of her day! Honey sleeps on the floor in her foster parents' bedroom at night and is good through the night. She is 90% housebroken and will only have the occasional accident if her schedule is not followed. It appears Honey's original owners may not have been the best at potty training and Honey acts like having to "go" is a crime even if she's outside. We have been working on encouraging her and praising her when she's outside and she's been very receptive. That practice needs to continue. Honey is crate trained but is only left in a crate when no one is home for approximately 3 hours max. I would not recommend Honey be left in a crate longer than 4 hours as I believe with her energy level she would become frustrated VERY quickly and it would lead to serious behavior problems. That being said, although she sleeps at night in the bedroom, I would not trust her in the house alone because she can be very creative if no one wants to play with her or she gets bored and will seek out her own version of fun. Chewing has not been a big problem with her but she has been caught in the act of going to chew on something inappropriate (staircase, shoes). As soon as she is told "NO!" she stops immediately and is easily redirected. Pretty much typical puppy behavior for this age. Honey doesn't really like being outside on her own. She prefers to be outside with one of the other dogs or with a person. Although the yard is fenced, she just appears to feel more comfortable having someone with her otherwise all she wants to do is come back inside. Honey would do great with another active dog that is looking for a playmate. She would love if she was adopted by someone who is home a good part of the day. She will follow you from room to room so you don't get out of her sight. Honey's original owners turned her into a high kill shelter because they were moving. Pitbulls are often on the black list of rental properties. Therefore she will not, without exception, be adopted into a rental situation. Honey has been fully vaccinated, spayed and her adoption fee does include microchipping that must be done within 30 days at a Rover Rescue approved vet. She is a wonderful dog that really does deserve to find her very own forever family. While the breed does get a bad rap, Honey could be the poster child for why pitbulls actually make wonderful companions and family pets. If you would like to learn more about Honey, please call her foster mom, Jodi, at 630-978-7323. Her adoption fee is $225.
