My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTION FEE WAIVED FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER!!

What is your name? My name is Misty; my foster mom calls me “Baby Girl”.

How old are you? I am about two years old

How much do you weigh? Close to 50 pounds

What do you look like? I have a beautiful and healthy dark grey coat, a white chest, and white toes on all four of my paws. I have beautiful brownish/dark golden eyes, and a faint white “highlight” on my nose.

What do you like to eat? I currently eat a grain-free dog food and Happy Howie snacks.

What kind of personality do you have? I am loving and very happy. I can get a little hyper, but I know how to calm right down when asked. If you even hint you are going to love me, I will definitely beat you to it. I am actually so good at this that I hear my foster mom whisper to herself “don’t make eye contact, don’t make eye contact …” so I just do this cute little move and she looks right into my eyes. #winning

Describe your perfect day: So far, I think I am learning the routine. I get up and get breakfast and get my potty on. I am learning that the crate is the safest place for me to be while my foster mom is at work. When she gets home, I hang out while she takes care of some things and then I get dinner. Once it cools down we go for a walk. We just hang out for the rest of the evening in the back yard or inside.

What is your favorite toy? I love squeak toys and bones to chew on.

Do you know any tricks? I know how to sit and catch treats; I’m not strong on “lay down” yet … pretty much because I don’t want to, but hey, we are working on this!

What scares you? I haven’t met or seen anything yet that scares me. In the past, I have not liked cold rain.

Have you been around children? Do you like them? I haven’t been around children yet but I’m gentle and loving around adults.

Do you like cats? I haven’t met any cats yet … but SQUIRRELS … O. M. G. -- they were everywhere I turned at the park. We walked into a zombie squirrel apocalypse! She kept moving me forward and diverting my focus and we finally made it to the edge of the park to the bike trail where I felt a little better but whoooooaaaaaaa those zombie squirrels were for real. I had been told they existed but had never seen any! My foster mom promised we would practice walking among zombie squirrels until they were invisible to me.

How do you feel about other dogs? I like being around other dogs but need to let out energy before being around low energy dogs. I have not yet been introduced to my new foster siblings.

If you could be anywhere in the world? I am not sure, but I know that sunshine would be involved.

How is your health? I am very fit, can go for runs, and can jump really high. Oh, and I can climb.

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with my foster mom, another female Pitty mix, a male American Bull Dog / Pit mix, and an elderly deaf American Bull Dog. But I have not met my fur siblings yet; I have only seen them, like “ships passing in the night” as my foster mom says. I want to meet them, but she wants to be sure I am comfortable in my surroundings and with the routine so that we can start our neutral walks this weekend. So, while I think the American Bull Dog/Pit Mix is very handsome, and totally wouldn’t mind hanging out by the fire pit in the moonlight with him, right now, I have to settle for my foster mom as my closest companion. At least she lets me sit in her lap. I like her.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone? I am an NBBR treasure and it’s my foster mom’s responsibility to ensure that nothing happens to me and that I am kept safe when I am in her care. So, I am learning that the crate is where I stay when I am alone and my foster mom is not present.

Where do you sleep? I have my own bed.

Do you like walking on a leash? Love. It. I pull a little initially, but it only takes me a bit to calm down. I haven’t seen other dogs yet, but I did get a little excited thinking I had to protect my foster mom from zombie squirrels.

Do you have any "not-so-great" habits that we should know about? For instance, do you bark or dig in the yard? My previous foster parents said I like to go for hot yummy food left out on counters when no one is watching. My foster mom seems to be quite the savvy dog lady though. I haven’t gotten up on her counters yet, but try as I might, I have not yet smelled any food on her counters!

Are you house-trained? (Meaning do you go potty outside) Yes

Do you like playing in water? So, there’s a pool here, but it’s been a little cool. Temps are expected to be warmer, and my foster mom pulled out a doggy life vest, so I’m guessing I am about to find out if I like playing in the water or not.

What do you love about your foster family? I think my foster mom wants to be sure that I have all the tools I need to be a good member of my adopter’s family. We have a routine so I have already learned what to expect from her!

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue is a foster based rescue with foster homes spread all throughout the Sacramento area. We usually require our adopters to be within a 50 to 100 mile radius of us, depending on the dog, and depending on the home. This is because we need to do a yard check to guarantee that the potential adopter's yard is secure, and also have them be close enough should any behavioral issues arise, and the assistance of our trainer is needed. We are, however, willing to adopt out of our area, including the Bay Area, Tahoe, and even further. We've even adopted out of state on very special occasions. We try our best to match our dogs to the perfect homes, and match them based on their personalities, not their looks. Adoptions are not done on a first come, first serve basis, rather in the order of what homes are the right match for that particular dog. Our adoption fees are based on the dog and range from $200-$350. In the case of senior dogs (6+ years), fees will be waived to the right home. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and deworming (if necessary).

The adoption donation for Mist is $200, but waived for the month of September!

Interested in meeting Misty or any of our available pooches? Complete and submit our adoption application on our website norcalbullybreedrescue.com and we will respond to you within 24 to 48 hours.
