My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

Hi! My name is Kodak and I'm looking for my very special forever and ever home!

I'm a 4-year old Corgi/ Clumber Spaniel (google this breed if you aren’t familiar with it as I have a lot of Clumber in me!) and I'm proud to say I'm about 65 pounds and still losing ! I've been losing weight and getting healthy since I was rescued by the great people at Pound Dog Rescue. I was seriously overweight when I came into rescue and could barely walk a block without having to take a break. My foster mom has been my personal trainer and I’m happy to say I am on my way to being fit again!

I was an unclaimed stay when the found me at a rural pound. I was really sick when I was rescued. The people at Pound Dog Rescue found me a foster home and worked with their great vet to figure out how to get me healthy. They fed me good food (although I think it's for dogs on a diet!) and took me on walks. They helped me with some bladder infections I had and after lots of tests determined I have diabetes insipidus. I'll tell you about that in a minute, it’s not as scary as it sounds. I am on medication, have lost a lot of weight and now feel great! I'm currently about 65 pounds and have a few more pounds to shed, but hey, I'm working on it! I'm on the road to recovery and now I can jog along on walks. I wag my tail, I play with dogs and toys and I love life! I am house trained and crate trained and am looking for a companion to chill out with!

If you're looking for an energetic, snuggly, bouncy kind of dog, well, I am not the dog for you. But if you're looking for a quiet, happy, chill dog that likes to go on walks and hang around you, and enjoys relaxation time then I'm a great match for you! I am a nice and quiet dog. I'm pretty low energy but like to go for walks every day. When I'm on a walk, I like to smell stuff. I like to roll in the snow too! Now that I'm feeling better, I can go for longer walks (like a good half hour!).

I don't mind other dogs as long as I'm introduced to them properly. That means I don't want to meet a dog that runs up to my face. I mean, seriously, give a dog his space, right? If a dog that I don't know runs up to my face, I will growl and say "back off man!". But if we're properly introduced, I don't mind other dogs at all. I like it best if I am introduced to them on a walk so we can bond a bit before heading on inside. And if they are nice and fun, I will play for a bit! Then I'll take a nap because playing is tiring.

When I'm out for walks and see other dogs, I sometimes growl and try to show them that I'm tough! My foster mom thinks I wasn't properly socialized. I get corrected when I growl at other dogs and then I stop. I would really benefit from training! Taking me to training is very important. I'll learn how to socialize properly and plus, that's how we bond! And I’m told that dogs get lots of treats at training class….I love treats!!!!

I'm being fostered with these weird creatures called cats. When I first saw them, I didn't know what they were so I growled at them. But they ignore me and I ignore them. Sometimes I worry that they will steal my food so I keep my eye on them when we're around food. But my foster mom is around and doesn't let me get away with that behaviour. So I would be fine with a dog savvy cat as long as you monitor me when I'm first living with them.

Since being rescued, I'm learning lots of thing about how to behave. My foster mom thinks I was hand fed people food and that's partly why I became so overweight. You see, dogs really don't need people food if you feed us good quality dog food. And hand-feeding dogs leads to dogs begging. So I'm learning that "OUT!" means I can’t linger in the kitchen when my foster mom is cooking or eating. I listen very well but need to be reminded every day that when the humans are cooking or eating, I need to give them space. I'm not allowed to be right at their feet. I get told "out!" and then I leave the kitchen. I watch from afar though. Very, very carefully.

I go for car rides, too! I am super chill in the car. I curl up in the back seat and don't really move much. I do need help getting in the car because my legs are so short. I appreciate the boost up…being vertically challenged does have some disadvantages. Once I'm in the car, I just chill out and enjoy the ride. Being chill and relaxed is my mantra in life; I don’t get too excited over anything.

I really love my crate. When the humans are at work, I stay in my crate. I like it there. I sleep in my crate at night. When the humans are watching TV, I'll hang out with them in my crate. I just go in there and the door stays open. It's just my spot and I'm comfortable there. I like being around the humans a lot and will chill out around them, so they have the crate in the family room by the TV. I think it's great! I love my crate so much that when my foster mom moved it 5ft from where it originally was I went and sat in the spot it used to be and looked at her so forlornly that she had to move it back. I like my routine and I like my crate where it’s supposed to be!

Because I'm super chill and don't like too much activity, I would not be suitable for a home with kids under 10 years old. I'd prefer a quiet, relaxed home where we go for walks and hang out. I don’t want a home with a lot of noise or people running about. An adult home would suit me best, or one with older children who aren’t too loud or busy and who like quiet times.

Ok, so here's the deal about my condition. I have what is called diabetes insipidus which is not as scary as it sounds. I don’t require injections or to have my blood tested or anything like that. This condition is commonly called water diabetes as it doesn’t have anything to do with blood sugar levels and deals with how my body processes water. Diabetes Insipidus is uncommon so it took my vets a while with a lot of tests and trying different medications to determine that this was the cause of my urinating a lot and having to drink so much water. But now that we know what I have, my condition is managed through medication and I am doing so well on it. I no longer drink or urinate excessive amounts and my activity level has increased as has my overall happiness. I will need to be on my medication for life and it costs around $40 a month for my meds. I can tell you I am so worth it though! I have been told over and over how easy of a dog I am to live with and everyone who meets me just loves me. I am a very special dog who will require an extra special home with people who will be willing to keep me on my meds so I can have a healthy life. I am a good boy to take my meds and like them buried in a scoop of canned food so they are a treat for me. Please research my condition so you are aware of what it is. Here is a link that explains it well.

If you're looking for a quiet, relaxed dog that likes to hang around you and go for walks and if you're committed to continue with my training and will give me my medicine every day, then please apply to come and meet me! I am a super sweet dog that will make a great companion. I like to take life easy and enjoy the finer things. If you enjoy casual walks, relaxing, and petting a silky dog, then look me up! We could be the very best of friends.
