My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rose Marie, but we affectionally call her Rosie.  Rosie is a year old female tri colored smooth coat Border Collie.

BCIN does know a little bit of her backstory.  She was a backyard dog, with her sister, before they were dumped at the shelter by their owner before BCIN could intervene.  Both of the sisters were adopted together from the shelter, but they were not a bonded pair as there was some squabbling between them.  Because they were left to fend for themselves, their current adopters got in touch with BCIN to relinquish one, as the two of them together were double trouble and unruly (BCIN does not believe in same sex sibling adoptions because of this).  Since Rosie has been in rescue, she is quiet and a bit subdued.  However, she comes to life when she is around people.  She needs to learn not to jump on people, but once you sit down next to her, she calms down.

Rosie is learning her potty manners, and is not quite housebroken.  She is learning the drill, and will need some more work on this.  Rosie is crate trained, so continuing her housebreaking should be pretty easy.  She does have some issues with submissive urination, but that should subside over time, once she builds her confidence and trust with you.

Rosie is a shyer dog and needs a quieter lifestyle and home environment.  She is a bit shy, and lacks in confidence, due to lack of socialization.  Her demeanor is very sweet, and she is not at all reactive with other dogs, but she is shy at first with them.  It does take her a while to engage.  She is biddable and is looking for her person to show her the way and help her blossom once she gains confidence.  Rosie is very smart and she already knows some basic obedience.  She is walking somewhat decently on a leash, but still needs some leash work.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
