My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PRBCR adopts to homes in NC, SC, and GA. The adoption fee is $250.00, we do a home visit, and would need a satisfactory vet reference.

Layla (Experienced BC home preferred) Hi there! My name is Layla, I’m a
15-month old BC/Aussie mix, and my foster mom signs to me that everyone
thinks I am beautiful! You may be asking why she signs? That’s because, even
though I have these big, beautiful, straight-up ears, I am deaf. My foster
mom and trainer have taught me so many signs! It’s such fun learning new
ones! Will you be the next one to teach me so more? I’d like to tell you a
little bit about myself; First, I’m a very smart girl. Most of us Border
Collies are, I read body language a lot, not just human but my canine foster
siblings too. I learn things very quickly and always try to do what she asks
on the first try. As far as commands go, I know sit, down, come, high-five,
go look, bring it, drop and more! All in sign of course! It’s funny, I can’t
hear the doorbell or a car pulling into the driveway, but as soon as my
foster siblings react I know exactly what’s going on. Second, I’m very
athletic! My favorites are Frisbee and luring. I absolutely love catching
that thing in mid-air. Now, my foster mom (FM) is pretty good at throwing it
and I almost always get it mid-air, no matter where she throws it and bring
it back to her. We also play with a luring toy that I love! She keeps it on
the pantry closest, I know this, so I stand at the door and bark for it!
When I’m done with playing I will start to circle, that just means I’m bored
with that one. She says I’d be a good running partner too, I think I’d love
that as long as we run where there aren’t many cars, I used to really go
nuts when I see them pass, but my FM taught me to sit when one is coming and
wait. She says I’m getting so much better about cars. Funny thing is I love
car rides, maybe that’s why I whirl in circles when I see one coming? I just
want to ride! Third, I’m awesome with people and most dogs. Other dogs have
to be like me or bigger, no small dogs. I love playing “chase” with my
foster siblings. My favorite thing to do is all out zoomies around the yard
with one or more of them chasing me – it’s the best! I’m very, very fast and
they usually can’t catch me, so sometimes I slow down so Oliver catch me and
then we can play tag! Oliver and me run the race track (FM’s yard) so fast
it’s fun! I can also run all out by myself too, I love to run that much.
Please don’t leave me unattended too long in the yard, I will try and find
an escape after a while. You should always be where you can see me if you go
back inside. Finally, I get very attached to my human(s). I LOVE being
petted and I really enjoy sitting on their laps and generally being close to
them. When I am not running, playing, chasing my shadow, I love laying at FM’s
feet or by her side. I also love hanging close to my foster siblings. As
long as I know where everyone is I feel better. Being deaf can be ruff
sometimes. I love to learn, please keep teaching me, it will also help my
Canine Compulsiveness, whatever that means. I would love a home with a good
Frisbee thrower, or runner, and a fenced in yard. I get along with other
dogs, but I’d also be fine with just a human as long as they spent a lot of
time with me! I love kids very much, but being deaf I am also afraid of them
when they approach to quickly and they do not understand how to be with a
deaf pup, so I would prefer not to go to a home with younger children.
Unless they are deaf too? They would understand me then. Only older
responsible kids that won’t leave the door open, I’d hate to get lost out
there. Mostly, I just want someone to hang out with and play forever! My FM
loves me and only wants the best for me, she says I need more time than she
can give me. That’s why a home with the below would be best. An Ideal Home
for Layla: · No Apartment Buildings · Energetic, yet calm active home with
lots of play time and exercise. Preferably a couple who work from home or
part-time. · Fenced in backyard with a 5 foot fence or higher · Experience
with Border Collies and can monitor and care for her condition (Layla has a
form of Canine Compulsive Disorder, where she chases shadows obsessively.
She is currently on Prozac to try to give her mind a bit of a break,
combined with ample exercise and training.). Her future home must be able to
continue to provide that positive training and support for her. · No young
children or cats · Infinite love and guidance · Must never be off leash
outside of a fenced yard · No very pushy or dominant dogs
