MEET CHARLIE R -
CHARLIE R is a very handsome, sweet, 5 year old, 9 lb Chocolate Dapple male Dachshund who lives life to the fullest. Due to no fault of his own, he finds himself in need of a new, loving family. His current humans love him very much and have reached out to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc to help him find a new forever home. CHARLIE R is one of those Doxies who loves to kiss and cuddle with his people. Typical of doxies, he enjoys playing, will fetch, he likes going for walks and even adventures in the car. He gets along with most everyone, though he is an alert barker, so he will tell you when someone has come to the door. Overall, CHARLIE R's current human family indicate that he is in good health. As you can see though, Charlie R does have a cataract in his right eye. This does impact his vision, but not his personality or love of life. Perhaps your family or someone you know has room in their heart and home for this very special, loving man who will definitely make a fantastic companion for the right familly.
CHARLIE R will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, CHARLIE R is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, CHARLIE R needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
