My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BRUTUS: 13 Year Old Black Lab Neutered Male 73 Pounds

“Some call me a senior dog, that just means I have years of experience in the fine art of friendship!”

Love, Love Brutus...
How could such a sweet boy end up at the shelter? Well his owner could no longer afford to care for his dogs and the best thing he could have done for Brutus is take him to a shelter; where he had a chance at a happy ending! The shelter immediately reached out to rescue and GGLRR decided he was a dog we should take into our program; we wanted to make sure Brutus would have a happy ending, no matter how long he had left to his life.

He loves all dogs, people, and doesn't have a problem with cats, birds outside, or just about anything and just wants to be around someone who wants a companion by their side. He is very gentle with kids and will sit and wait patiently until the kids give him his treats. He even eats with his two foster dogs in the same room without any problems.

Brutus loves to ride in the car and he takes treats very nice from your hand. He actually loves to shake hands for his treats! He knows to sit and of course he will walk well on a leash, just a couple easy walks a day for Brutus and he will be fine to rest inside your home the rest of the day. He was an inside dog; so he is house trained. He is a very quiet dog and will do what you ask of him; we think he may be a bit hard of hearing. Brutus had a full blood panel at the shelter, a well check, he is neutered, he is updated on his shots, plus a senior panel with us. I'm up to 73 pounds already being in my foster "homes" and my tail never quits wagging!

From Brutus:
I am Brutus and I am adjusting to a very interesting life. Momma K does morning duty, feeding me, letting me relieve myself and then tucks me back in she says she has to go to work. Momma T comes later in the morning and brings me down to where my foster sister, brother, cat foster & Poppa T live. I get to play, socialize, run errands and take naps at Momma T's Then Momma K comes to get me, she says she just returned home from work. I have dinner, look at my cat siblings, curl up on one of my beds until it's bedtime. Momma K covers me w my blankie & then Momma & Poppa K go to bed and I don't go to bed hungry. It is very different from my past life but I am really liking it.

From his foster Momma T:
Brutus is a young 13. He is such a happy, sweet young/old soul! He just keeps on wagging his tail, "hugging" (rubbing his head on you is his hug), smiling, and just loving being by your side (not separation issues, just love for you). He can be left for several hours at a time in the house without any problems. Totally turn key is this gentle, gentleman! Love this guy to pieces as will you!

From his foster Momma K:
Brutus is my first adult senior foster and didn't know what to expect.....well actually I was anticipating a feeble, unstable dog, having difficulty getting up/down steps or in/out of the car. OMG, Brutus is anything but, he is calm yet energetic, gets into/out of cars easily, has no trouble getting in and out of the house. We have baby gates up, but this is more for our cats, so they feel safe. But honestly, we really don't need them, one of our cats, Quincey, feels completely safe to come into the family room. Quincy will walk inches by Brutus, what does Brutus do you ask? Brutus wags his tail, he also puts his head down and turns slightly away as if to say, "don't worry I won't hurt you." Sometimes I think he would like to make a kitty friend but Quincey isn't ready. To summarize, Brutus is a calm, loving, energetic 13 yr old who is house broken, has no separation issues, gets along w cat's, love bug.

Note from Momma T:
Sometimes fosters come in many different packages. Even if you work full time, or only have weekends, you might find a co-foster that will be your partner to help a dog in need. It's a joy not to be missed!

Brutus is located in Novato.

If you are looking for a sweet boy that needs a final home please email Rescue Rep Liz at liz@jobshopsf.com or call 415-613-6374; Brutus will pay you back many times over!

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
