My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET STELLA -

She is a sweet, loving and playful Chiweenie (Dachshund/Chihuahua mix) and just under a year old. She is very treat motivated but who isnt right? Here is what Stella has to say for herself:

I do get along with cats and they don't bother much. My foster mom has two and I only chase them once in a while. What I like most is snugging on the couch with you if you let me along with my blanket and that makes me a happy camper.

I am not fully potty trained but I am working on it and have been doing pretty good. Don't be surprised if when I see you that I get super excited and I might piddle a little - I am a work in progress and I am doing much better.

I wasn't really cared for with my former owners and I sometimes find loud noise and yelling makes me a little skiddish - I will tend to put my tail between my legs and act scared. I don't like that :( Funny - I like to bark at the vacuum cleaner - its loud so I want to be too.

I'm a little skinny right now, but my foster mom has been feeding me some really good food - I like it a lot and honestly, while you train me, I eat just about anything I can get my hand on so please be careful leaving anything lying around. Guaranteed I will eat it if its within my ability to get. Foster mom has been giving me food in little tiny bits because I eat so fast.

Honestly I am a super sweet girl. I love my belly rubbed and will want to play if you have the time. I will be your best friend with lots of love and care - don't mind me as I follow you everywhere you go. I just want any good girl puppy wants, love and a caring home.

STELLA will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. She will be fully vetted and spayed on 3-24-2017.

Like all Dachshunds, STELLA is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, STELLA needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give STELLA a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
