My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ava is just over 1 year old, under 10 lbs and has the silkiest black coat you could imagine. While Ava can be a bit shy at first with new people, once she knows you, she will shower you with kisses and as much love as you can take! Her curly little tail wags with her entire body and she will dance and bounce gently around you to be noticed.

Ava has some "perfect dog" traits, too! She is crate trained and does not make a peep once she is inside. Rides quietly in the car. She is not at all destructive with toys or things in the house... she plays gently with her toys and loves to wiggle her back on the rug. She can hold her "business" through the night and is not the kind of dog who has to go first thing in the morning. This girl is completely potty trained! Ava is very quiet in the house. She follows me around, tip-tapping her little paws behind me. When I sit, she sits in her bed nearby and sleeps. Aside from a tiny little snore, she is very, very quiet. This little girl is easy to be around.

When Ava meets someone new, her shyness keeps her in her little bed. It seems she tries to be invisible, but of course, you can't help seeing her adorable little ears and big, sweet eyes. Over the weeks she has been in foster, she is gaining more and more courage to try new things. We think, with a patient home, she will settle in nicely and continue to blossom into the curious, fun-loving little dog that she is. She will need you to give her time to get to know you. This might not be "instant love" when you meet her, but after she trusts you, the bond will be unbreakable! It is the shy dogs who bond in a very special way. Since Ava is shy, she would likely do better in a home with children old enough to know patience and to be very gentle :-)

Ava has been very, very friendly with all dogs she meets, both big and small. She is even comfortable around horses and mostly ignored the cats she has met. She would love to live with another dog to play with, and to help boost her confidence. She is a dream to walk on a leash. She is still learning how to walk past lots of traffic and people, but she LOVES going for walks (really loves nature and hiking too!), seems to thrive outside, and does not pull on the leash AT ALL. Just walks quietly by your side. Can I say, this dog is a little angel! If you have a sunny spot in the yard, that will be her spot. Little Ava is learning a few things with treats. She is working on "sit", "up", "come", "let's go", etc.

If you are willing to be patient and let Ava fall in love with you slowly, she will be the best companion you could ask for. Now that she is comfortable in her foster home, she greets me with so much enthusiasm, standing on her legs, body wiggling, and gently pawing the air saying "look at me! look at me!". She will steal your heart. Ava wants a canine companion if her new person works a full work day.

Ava's adoption fee is $250. She is fostered in Sonoma, CA

All our dogs are in private foster homes and arrangements to meet our dogs occur after an application has been received.
