My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rufio is a handsome male African Pygmy hedgehog looking for a special someone with hedgehog or exotic animal experience. This person will need to be patient and understanding with him while working to continue his socialization. Prior to coming into our care, he has not been in a home where he was provided adequate time and energy to bond with a human. This means that when interacting with humans, he prefers to be safely tucked in a spiky ball when he doesn't feel safe. Slowly but surely, he's warming up with some gentle patience in his foster home.

Rufio loves running on his wheel in the middle of the night (he is nocturnal), long naps in the day, and enjoys a nice bowl of cat food with a couple meal worms sprinkled on top. Rufio enjoys a cozy hidey-hut and/or sleep pouch to nestle and keep warm. He absolutely adores his free roam time on the floor. It's where his personality shines. It's unlikely that Rufio will ever be a cuddly pet, but more of a companion critter to someone who enjoys him enough to share a seat next to him on the couch while he sleeps.
