My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dandelion’s Rescue was Sponsored by Holly and Eric

Dandelion is a lovely girl that is very affectionate and on her way to becoming a great family pet. She is an adult dog at approximately 3 – 4 years old but has never had the benefit of living in a home environment. She is very attentive to her people however, learns quickly and is eager to please. She would be a great candidate for someone who would like to take her to obedience classes where she would excel. She weighs approximately 54 lbs.

Here is what her foster mom had to say:

Dandelion would be a wonderful companion for an individual or a perfect fit for a family. You can see how much she wants to please you, just from her eyes! She is so happy and such great company and just wants to be loved. She eats and drinks well and hasn’t shown any health concerns. She has a playful energy but has a more mature presence than a puppy would exhibit. I would classify Dandelion’s energy as moderate. She’s content laying inside but when she heads outside, she has much more energy and wants to play/run around. As a short haired dog, her shedding is pretty normal for a lab – fairly low, but should still expect moderate shedding a few times a year.

As a lab mix, she of course loves everyone! She wants to meet everyone on walks to say hello, with her tail always wagging. She has shown no signs of aggression. She does occasionally get too excited when playing fetch, and will bark and try to jump on you to get at the ball. This relates to her not really understanding commands yet, and with a bit of consistent training, she will know the appropriate way to play. When Dandelion was first brought home, she hid behind my legs like a child would do! It only took a short amount of time for her to realize everyone else was friendly too and I haven’t experienced shyness from her since. She definitely likes to play with other dogs, and will run around with them for quite some time until she’s tired. On walks, she shows interest in other dogs, and I believe she would be friendly with any dog that is friendly with her. She seemed to want to chase the barn cats but I am unsure how she would do with a house cat.

She does like to be in the same room as me and she will wait on the other side of the door for me if I do not let her in. As time goes on, she will become more independent, and should feel more confident that her family will not abandon her. She willingly sticks her head out the window in the car and has no problem with the loud noises of the passing trucks and cars. She also is not fazed by the blender, vacuum or blow-dryer. She likes to run free outside and play with ball-type toys. And while on walks she definitely has her nose to the ground and enjoys all the new smells. She is quiet and relaxed when inside but will occasionally bark to let you know someone new has come inside.

In the first few days, she did counter surf a few times – curious with that nose of hers. She has been reluctant to do so since she was told no. She tested the waters, and has quickly understood that is not allowed. She will still stick her nose up, but hasn’t jumped up since. Dandelion came to us untrained and not knowing any commands. She is learning “sit” and “drop it” and will respond to “come” or “come here”. I think a basic obedience class would really benefit both her and her adopters. She seems to be eager to please and a fairly quick learner! She is fully house trained and always waits until she gets outside to do her business.

Dandelion is not crate trained. She is not scared of the crate and will go in willingly, but will whine and try to paw her way out and will keep it up for a long time. She seems to be trustworthy without a crate at night and sleeps well on a dog bed when she’s in the same room as you. As for being left alone during the day time for a short time, she has grabbed a few things (like shoes) and brought them to other rooms (but they were not chewed on). For a family who isn’t home as much as we are, crate training may be necessary during the daytime. She is definitely not leash trained, and will need adopters who will be patient with her while she learns the proper way to walk on a leash and not pull you. She does not try to to escape or bolt out the door. She is very eager to jump in (and out!) of the car and is a little restless/excited on shorter rides. She hangs out in the back seat and goes from side to side looking out the windows, and occasionally tries to sneak to the front seat. On longer rides, she will settle and lay down/sleep.

Dandelion is a super friendly dog and is just looking for love and approval from her family. I think she would make a family very happy. She is so loving! With a bit of patience, some obedience training and leash training she will truly be perfect with almost anyone. She would do well and love to play with other dogs, but would also be a great solo pet. She does like to be active outside, so an individual or family that would provide plenty of time outdoors on walks or playing in a backyard would be great for her.

If you think Dandelion would be a good fit for your situation, please go to our main website at uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an application for consideration.
