My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB March 8, 2007
There is no denying that Grisham has had a rough upbringing. For the past 10 years, he lived with a family who neglected and over-fed him. When we got him, he had oily fur, skin rashes and a mouth full of decaying teeth.

A few weeks ago, his life was turned upside down. There was a fire in the apartment building where he lived and he was forced to run away to escape. A day later, he and five other resident cats of the building were found by Toronto Animal Services (TAS). Through their microchips, they were able to contact all 6 families who owned them. Everyone came to pick up their babies except for one – Grisham. After numerous calls, voicemails and pleas, TAS tried everything they could but could not convince the family to come get him.

This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Grisham. Upon completing a full medical exam, TAS discovered that the poor guy was in terrible shape. He was 8 lbs overweight, malnourished, and had 4 teeth that needed to be removed. The vets say that without immediate medical help, he would have only had a few years left to live. It’s crazy to think that a tragic fire ending up saving this handsome man’s life.

Fast forward to present day, he’s had an incredible transformation. He’s almost fully recovered from his dental surgery, is slowly losing weight and his coat is soft, beautiful and shiny. We’re also starting to see his personality change. At first, he was an angry, scared cat who was in a lot of pain and did not trust people. Now, as he adapts to his new lifestyle, we’re seeing his true personality come through! He loves head scratches and purrs loudly to let you know he’s enjoying them. Sometimes, if he’s in a really good mood, he’ll roll onto his back and ask for belly rubs – it’s the cutest thing! He also loves to run around and play with a ball/string. At his age, it’s incredible to see him have so much energy – he’s that happy to be in a loving, nurturing environment.

That being said, he’s not perfect (not yet, at least!). He is still recovering from his dental surgery. No medication or special diet is needed, but the vet recommends checking his teeth daily for any issues. Also, most importantly, he’s still learning to trust people. After so many years of neglect, it takes time to build trust and as a result, he’ll occasionally run away or hiss if he’s surprised. BUT with time and in a loving home, we’re confident he’ll be an affectionate, loyal companion. All he needs is a steady diet of healthy food, head scratches and playtime and he’ll love you forever.

He cannot wait to meet you and is SO excited to find his forever home.
