About Our Shelter...
The Pottawatomie County Caring Hearts Humane Society is located in Wamego, Kansas and was founded in June, 2005 by a group of citizens who were concerned for the welfare of homeless pets in the Wamego area. We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization working with many other local shelters and humane societies for the welfare of animals.
Our mission is to ensure that all dogs impounded receive proper medical care and are treated in a humane manner. We promote the adoption and fostering of dogs and cats who are homeless and/or not claimed by their owners.
We provide and organize volunteer services at the Wamego City Pound, such as helping to clean the kennel area, exercise the dogs daily and assist prospective adoptive families. We hope to train new volunteers in this area, as we only have a few prople providing these services at this time.
Our goal is to provide spay-neuter assistance to families in Pottawatomie County and to assist with animal cruelty and welfare investigations.
Wamego is located 15 miles east of Manhattan, KS. The Wamego Pound is on the eastern outskirts of town. It is in the same location as the Waste Water Plant off of Valley Street. For directions, please call (785) 313-3194.
Our Adoption Process...
* $150 Dogs
The fee pays a portion of the costs that PCCHHS incurs to vaccinate, heartworm test, and spay or neuter the pet. In some cases a pet might require extensive veterinarian care which may result in a higher fee.
If you are interested in one of our pets listed please complete an adoption application on our website: pottcountyhumanesociety.org.
We will do out of state adoptions as long as a humane transport can be set up for the animal. The person adopting the animal is responsible for the cost of the health certificate, adoption fee and transport. Many times we can enlist the help of volunteers to help with a ground transport. Please e-mail us a firstname.lastname@example.org if you are from out of state and interested in adopting one of our pets.
