Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Missy. I am a gorgeous feist mix of approximately two years old. I came from Jackson County, AL where I was found by a Scottsboro Animal Control officer. I stayed at the animal control office for a few weeks being boarded with other dogs like me. Unfortunately, I was too shy, timid and nervous in the kennel that I would not come to meet people that may have wanted to adopt me. My fear was so great and I just couldn't come forward to be seen and known. So, on the day before I was supposed to be euthanized, a lady from Friends of Rescue noticed me and got me to come to her by being patient and sweet. I responded with my tail between my legs and I slowly went to her. There was something so nice about her I just couldn't help myself.
Before I knew it, she sent out a call to all of the available fosters for this organization called Friends of Rescue. The next day, I was surprised to see a guy with the animal control officer standing at my kennel. I thought, oh, it must be time to say goodbye to the world. But, he was talking sweet to me, trying desperately to get me to come to him. I had given up and just didn't have it in me to be disappointed again by these two legged things. What I didn't know, was that the kind lady from the day before sent this guy. He tried and tried to get me to come to him and I remained too scared. So, he just picked me up, walked to an office, signed a paper and we were in a truck.
We must have got where we were going because the truck stopped, we got out and we walked to a house I did not know.... I walked slowly to the door... inside were two other dogs. All of the sudden I had new friends - I love new friends.
After a day or so, I got shots and spayed and after a little recovery time I began to settle in to my new home. I began playing with my new toys, eating as much as I could get and started playing with my new friends. My foster family has shown me what love is and I have came out of my shell.
I think all I needed was love and to be wanted. I get along great with my new friends, I am doing really well on my potty training and I am told that I have a ton of energy and am happy. Is this what happy is? I think so.. You see, I am not what I once was.. I am full of life, energy and am a great companion. I love my foster family, especially my foster brother. He and I play till he gets enough of me, then I go to my toys and play with them. I love to run, jump around in the air and during the day, I get to nap so I can do it all again as soon as I wake up.
I sleep in my crate at night and would like for it to be in the same room you are sleeping. That way, I can be comfortable knowing you are close by. I am a bit anxious if you leave but will settle down after a few minutes. I may not be as demure as some, but I am working on it. My foster family tells me it will come with age and reminders. Being just a year old, I still need to be corrected if something I do upsets you. But, I will tell you, you have to be nice and be consistent about it. That way, I will not become fearful and will understand what you are telling me and I will learn. I am very smart.
I am a work in progress. I still have some things that I am working on. I tend to bark and get anxious around new people when I am outside. I have been told that my anxiety is because of how I lived before. I'm not sure about that, but I do know that I am high energy, love exercise and need a ton of love – all things I get now and will need in the future too.
I'm looking for my forever home and I would make a great pal. If you are interested in meeting me, I would love the opportunity. I am good with kids ages 8+ and warm up to almost everyone after a bit of time. I love having other dogs around me but it may take a little time for me to get to know them. I am spayed, current on shots, tested negative for heart worms, microchipped, dewormed, and current on trifexis. I am located in Huntsville, AL, but I'm available for adoption in your area.
