My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

URGENT! NEEDS NEW HOME BY MAY 1! IDEALLY PAIRED WITH "ILSA."

"Scarlett" is an adorable 11-yo (born 3-17-06) spayed female Lab/Border Collie mix who is super-friendly and in great shape for her age. Scarlett is a happy-go-lucky dog who is always smiling. She is outgoing and friendly with strangers, and would likely be good with young children.

Scarlett is great with other dogs and has lived harmoniously for 10 yrs w/ her companion Ilsa, a 10¾-yo spayed female Australian/German Shepherd mix (see post below). She also gets along well w/ the 6-yo neutered male Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier that she lives with. Scarlett got along great w/ the other dogs she met at GSRSV's rescue ranch, and seemed to enjoy running around amidst all the barking and chaos. (See elsewhere on this page for for video).

Scarlett got along well with the cat she grew up with (who has since passed away), and is available to a home with a cat or cats.

Scarlett is fully housetrained and does well inside even when nobody is home. She walks well on leash and has very good off-leash recall. She loves to go for car rides and is a good passenger.

Scarlett's favorite game is to herd her pal Ilsa when Ilsa is chasing after a ball. Scarlett is thin and athletic, and again is in great shape for her age. Her only geriatric symptom is some occasional urinary incontinence, which can be readily controlled w/ a (relatively) safe, inexpensive drug called Proin. (I have used Proin on many of my elderly dogs with positive results and no noticeable side effects.)

Scarlett's owner Coleen adopted her at about 1 yr old from a rescue group in Lodi. Though Scarlett is very dear to her, she is having to move to a place by the end of April where she can't bring Scarlett (or Ilsa) so is seeking a new home for her and Ilsa.

GSRSV evaluated Scarlett on March 26 and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Scarelett through its adoption program while her owner continues to care for her.

Ideally, we would like to see Scarlett adopted together with her companion Ilsa, a 10-yo spayed female Australian/German Shepherd mix (see http://www.adoptapet.com/adoption_rescue/11078.html#featured). However, we will allow her to be adopted separately as well.

Scarlett is located in Lockeford (Northeast of Lodi). Her adoption fee is $85. (If adopted together with Ilsa, their combined adoption fee is only $100.)
