My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE READ BELLE'S ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS AND BE ABLE TO MEET THEM BEFORE CONTACTING RESCUE. THANK YOU.

Belle is an adorable Havanese mix. We suspect that she is mixed with some sort of terrier. If you are looking for the Havanese personality, Belle doesn't have it. She has the spunky terrier personality; feisty, a bit bold and determined, VERY active, fun, smart and affectionate! Belle is probably not yet 2 and weighs about 16 pounds . She is house trained, crate trained (although doesn't require one) loves her daily walks and rides in the car. Belle loves other dogs and is fine with cats. She loves, loves, loves to play! Belle is very active, affectionate and eager to please, interested in a lot of play and a bit pushy in her behavior. She learns quickly and likes to snuggle. As an added bonus, Belle does not shed.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO WATCH BELLE'S VIDEO.

Belle came to us from a rural shelter with few options left. Belle was first released to the shelter in August of 2016 at less than a year old by a young family that said they had no time for her. She was then adopted by an "elderly couple" who returned her to the shelter in February of 2017 because she was "demanding of attention and always underfoot. Into rescue she came.

Belle has been a complete joy in rescue although it is obvious that her life before was not the best. At first she was a bit worried when new people approached her but now she greets everyone with enthusiasm. Apparently no one had spent any quality time with Belle until now. The fact that two families could dump her in a pound tells us that no one ever took the time to bond with Belle, to teach her, to make her feel special and loved. Everything has changed for Belle. Now she gets a lot of attention and loves it. Belle is a happy, fun, playful little dog. She likes men and woman equally.

Belle is now ready to find her forever home. No more bouncing around, no more homes without time to share with her. Belle'f new home will know and honor the words "commitment" and "forever."

BELLE'S ADOPTION WILL REQUIRE a fenced yard or fenced area that is large enough for her to run and play safely, that leads directly into the house. She would be fine with an E fence or wireless fence as long as owners do not do the training. She will need someone that is home more than an 8 hour work week allows; someone that works form home (but still has time for a dog during the work day), works VERY part time (gone only a couple of hours a day) or is retired. Right now Belle is catching up on what she has missed and that means that she needs and deserves an owner that is available and somewhat active. She needs to live with someone that will take her with them in the car, on walks and play with her in the yard. She needs an active environment. Belle will need to live with another VERY playful dog. She would enjoy a home with older, respectful children - 12 or older. Belle lives and plays with other dogs as you can see in her video but she can be bit bold and her playmate in the home is very tolerant of her. Belle has had to be pushy in order to survive and because of this she would be best not with a first time dog owner.. Belle is a super little dog that needs and deserves the time and attention she didn't get earlier in her life. Applicants will need to live within a 2.5 hour drive from Wooster, OH so that we can do our own home visit and bring Belle with us. ALL OF BELLE'S REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR ADOPTION. PLEASE RESPECT BELLE'S ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS.

We don't want to paint a negative picture of Belle. She is a super little dog but needs to live with someone that will continue to give her positive direction. She needs a leader, a protector, so that she does not feel that she has to make her own way. She needs to be assured that it is not she against the world. Belle lives in a foster home that has already started to help her to understand that it is not she against the world and that will need to continue in her new home.

Star-Mar Rescue is a natural care provider. We use no chemicals on our dogs, no commercial flea products (oral or topical), do blood titers instead of randomly vaccinating. Our yards are without fertilizer and weed killer and our homes are toxin free. We feel that dogs can be protected without being harmed by harsh chemicals and unnecessary vaccinations and do best on a species appropriate raw diet. We are happy to talk with you about caring for your dogs in a way that keeps them happy and healthy long into their senior years. We place our dogs into homes that are already practicing natural care or homes that are eager to learn.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Belle's needs, please contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 or 330-262-0515 for an application or more information. Belle's adoption will require an approved application and a home visit, with the adoption completed at Belle's foster home in Berlin OH. Belle's adoption fee is $275.
