DUKE is a 5-year-old neutered male black lab. Duke weighs 52 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.
DESCRIPTION Duke is a very sweet dog. He has good house manners and he is very calm in the house. He likes to play fetch for a bit or chew on a nyla bone. He know some commands and is eager to please. He loves to snuggle up to his humans and if you like a furry bed mate he is your man! He pulls on leash and benefits from a harness. Duke generally ignores other dogs he sees but he will get excited when he sees small dogs. No cats, bunnies, or little dogs. Duke is a great car passenger too. Duke does retrieve and enjoys his toys.
Update: Hi! I'm Duke. I love people. I will sit on your lap and follow you around. I love playing with toys and will take all of them out and put them in their proper place, even if you think they belong elsewhere. I love long walks and get very excited when its time to go outside. I pull a little, but lets be honest, humans walk too slow. I can get distracted very easily outside, with birds, squirrels and other dogs. I have good manners in the house, as long as you don't tempt me. I love food and will do tricks for you. I have gained some weight and don't look so skinny now.
Update: Duke is a sweet and charming guy. In the house, he is low key and well mannered. He is very snuggly, too. He loves to rest his chin on your leg so you can pet him. If you stop too soon, he will nudge you with his nose to get you started again. Duke enjoys playing with toys. He chews on his antlers and relocates the stuffed animals according to a master plan that mere humans may not understand. When left loose in the house the other evening, he moved a pile of toys to the front hall to surprise his human. When his human doesn't play with him, he will throw the tennis ball himself and then chase it. Duke loves to go for long walks. He pulls some but a snug EZ Walk harness works well. He wags for people he sees, ignores most other dogs, occasionally getting a bit excited, and is definitely interested in bunnies. What the dog walker had to say about Duke, "What a love he is. Oh my gosh. He is going to make somebody a great friend!"

Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Solid fence or no fence. An electric fence is not be a good match with his prey drive. No dog parks.
This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound.) Adopters must travel to Maryland, or Virginia with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.
Lab Rescue LRCP has between 40 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia, and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates and locations are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.
