My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roo got her name because she looks like a little Kangaroo! In the second photo, which was before her surgery, she is perched inside a little round doggie bed that resembles a pouch. Some would call her a Deer Chihuahua because of her coloring and long legs. She is a small girl, weighing in at about 7 pounds. We estimate Roo to be about 1.5 years old.

Roo came to us from animal control where she was brought in as a stray with a broken front leg. She was kept long enough to allow her owners to reclaim her, but they did not.

We learned about Roo and her medical needs so agreed to assume responsibility for her orthopedic surgery. Sadly, that was not the full extent of Roo's medical problems.

As soon as the orthopedic surgeon listened to Roo's heartbeat, he immediately knew that Roo had a heart defect. She was rushed to a specialty hospital where she underwent heart surgery to correct the birth defect (PDA) and to have a plate put in her leg to allow the tiny bones to heal.

We learned that Roo's leg had been broken about 3 weeks earlier, so she had been suffering a long time before we got her. The PDA defect is rare, but occurs when a vessel connecting the chambers of the heart before birth does not close up at birth. It's a delicate 15 minute surgery to fix, but Roo left with more than $6,000 in veterinary bills after these two surgeries. She has since been spayed and is all healed up and ready for her new home.

Roo has been nurtured in a loving foster home for nearly 2 months while she recovered. Roo has flourished and is now 100% healthy and has absolutely no restrictions on where she can go and what she can do. Roo is housebroken and gets along well with other doggies. She's still a fragile thing because of her size, so is not a good dog for a family with toddlers that might drop her or fall on her.

Roo has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for heartworms. Her adoption fee is $250.00.

If you are interested in adopting this cutie, please write us at PricelessPets4u@gmail.com and ask for an application to adopt. We are a foster-home based organization located in Atlanta, GA. The adoption process starts when you submit your application. Once that has been approved, we will contact you to schedule a time for you to meet Roo.

If you would like to donate to help us with her medical expenses, please go to paypal and find us under pricelesspets4u@gmail.com. We are an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable entity and your donation is 100% tax deductible.
