My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

4/17/17 - Meet Dahlia

Dahlia was left to fend alone on a busy street in the south. After searching all the nearby houses and getting kicked away, and searching the faces of the driver's going by, Dahlia looked into the eyes of the right person driving by. This volunteer opened the car door and said "come in dear" and there she went to a rescuer's home. After getting a clean bill of health and shots and a spay, she settled into life with plenty of food, toys and other dogs to play with. Dahlia is about 2 years old and was pre-checked for our Paws in Prison program, sort of like an SAT test for for the program. She passed and has now been accepted into the intensive 8 week program. She will graduate in May.

We are proud to announce that this pup has been accepted into the Arkansas Department of Correction’s Paws in Prison Program. The program is a partnership with animal shelters and rescue groups. Selected inmates, under the guidance of professional dog trainers, work with rescue dogs, teaching them basic obedience skills and properly socializing the animals.

Canine applicants to the program undergo testing to ensure that they are a good candidate and, once accepted, remain in the program for 6-8 weeks. Graduates from the Paws in Prison Program will be provided with their training notebook which contains information about their skills, commands and progress through the program.

The adoption fee of $375 includes age-appropriate vaccines, initial de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, USDA interstate health certificate (for transport only) and transport fee. Please go to our site for general information and the adoption application. fordogssakerescue.org. The application is the first step in all adoptions/inquiries. This is not a link; please type in into a new browser window. At this time, we are unable to adopt to Rhode Island residents. Please note: Pups marked “pending” are adopted but not yet traveled home. They are to be considered unavailable. Thank you. Additional information is available on our site fordogssakerescue.org.
