My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sunny: 3-year-old female chocolate Lab mix 65 lbs

A stray dog likely struck by a car in Sacramento… this wonderful ray of sunshine came to us via the Sacramento County shelter after her fracture was set and a cast was placed on her right front leg to enable her to recover. She is showing no ill after-effects of the broken leg. Her cast is now removed and she walks completely normal.

What Sunny’s trainer says:

Sunny is really coming out of her shell. She was really nervous the first few days but now she is a very HAPPY girl and has a wonderful disposition (hence the name we gave her). We are really trying to keep her calm. She is confined to the family room/kitchen area and is on a short leash when in the backyard. She gets very excited to see us - not just when we come home, but anytime we enter the room, get up from the table, go anywhere near her etc. etc. She is extremely affectionate and just begs for belly rubs and ear scratches. Sunny is absolutely not interested in jerky treats, dentastix, cheese, etc. This is the first dog I've encountered that doesn't want cheese -- Hah! She does not beg at the table. She'll eat peanut butter from my hand but not inside a kong or other chew toy. She's not interested at all in chew toys. Thankfully she's not chewing anything else. She steals slippers/shoes but she doesn't chew them - she just gathers them up and leaves them by her bed. Sunny is a real doll and will make a terrific companion once she's healed.

What Sunny’s Rescue Rep says:

Sunny is spayed, microchipped, and current on her vaccinations. She is on slow and quiet rehabilitation for the next few months as her leg heals – but we expect a full recovery.

She gets along with other dogs and people, although she comes off as quite timid and shy at first. Sunny is located in Danville.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
