Facts about Woodrow

  • Breed: Labrador Retriever
  • Color: Black
  • Age: Young
  • Size: X-Large 101 lbs (46 kg) or more
  • Sex: Male
Woodrow is a very handsome, lovable, 3 year old black lab who was an owner surrender, reluctantly turned in to DLRR with severe anxiety issues. Despite this however, Woodrow is a wonderful dog who socializes beautifully with all other dogs, and it appears he is not an anxious dog in general. He has been receiving training since his intake with DLRR and his anxiety seems to stem from his desire to be with people. Woodrow can become vocal with barking and demands to join the family and this will escalate to drooling and panting if left unattended and unaddressed. However, Woodrow has made great strides with his training and he is now crate trained and comfortable being in his kennel in a quiet environment. Woodrow is overweight at 118 lbs. and he will need an owner who is committed to giving him the considerable amount of exercise he needs to lose the extra weight and to assist him with remaining in a calm state of mind by using up energy. Woodrow has been trained to exercise on a treadmill and he is also trained to swim, (he loves playing fetch in the pool), wait, come, sit, quiet, and to go potty. Woodrow will need an owner who is home much of the time and who is prepared to continue the training that has already been implemented in relation to his anxiety, this will need to be ongoing. It would also be ideal if his new owner has a pool because Woodrow loves to swim. Woodrow is good with cats, we are unsure how he is with kids. Please call Woodrow's foster for more information if you are interested in this gorgeous, sweet boy.

About Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Here is our mission statement from our website:
Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue of Phoenix (DLRR) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to finding loving, life-long homes for displaced Labrador Retrievers. In addition to rescue, our volunteers provide medical care and/or rehabilitation for these dogs and then attempt to match them with appropriate, permanent homes. We also provide Labrador Retriever breed and training information on request. Through public education, we strive to help eliminate animal overpopulation by encouraging the spaying and neutering of pets.

Come Meet Our Pets...

DLRR has regular events where potential adopters and the public can see some of our dogs. These events are listed on our website at
As noted in the description below of how to adopt one of our labs, approved adopters may contact one of our volunteers to meet one of our available dogs.
Also check out our Facebook page, where many of our dogs are spotlighted.

Our Adoption Process...

Every potential adopter (who must live in Arizona) must fill out an online form and pay a small fee. A volunteer will contact the potential adopter and schedule a home visit. If everything looks good at the home visit, the potential adopter begins to receive our Dogalog twice a week that shows all available dogs. If a potential adopter is interested in a particular dog, he or she contacts the volunteer listed for that particular dog and arranges a time to meet the dog. If it is a potential match, we ask the adopter to think about it for about 24 hours. There is a fee to adopt one of our dogs and it is based on the dog's age, with younger dogs having a larger fee than our older labs. There is a contract to be signed.
