My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

Hi! My name is Ria. I’m a 3 year old female Cairn Terrier mix looking for my forever home. I’m a small dog and weigh 15lbs. I was found as a stray and ended up at the pound where I was never claimed. My foster parents aren’t sure how this happened because I’m such a happy and cute little dog. It’s probably for the best though because now I can live in a home where I will never be allowed to run loose and get lost again! What makes me special? Well, let me tell you!

I love going on walks. As soon as you say the word ‘walk’ I’m at the door waiting to go. I sit at the door until my leash is put on and I am told I can go outside. I’m learning how to walk well on a leash as I get a bit excited on my walks especially when I see another dog, or a squirrel, or rabbit, or bird...they are just so exciting! My new family will need to continue to work on this with me as I need to be reminded to stay calm. My foster parents tell me I am doing much better though. I also love to run. A fenced yard is a must on my list of things I would like my new family to have so I can run all I want and get my energy out!

Car rides rides are one of my favourite things. I ride well in the back seat, or the front seat, wherever you would like me is fine. I’m just happy to be with you. I love car rides so much that I will jump in the car immediately when the door is opened even if we aren’t going anywhere...I wouldn’t want to miss out on a car ride! I am very calm in the car and will just lie on the seat.

My toys are another one of my favourite things! I have a squeaky pig that I absolutely adore. I like to carry my pig around the house and squeak it for hours at a time. In fact, I like to squeak it so much that I broke the squeaker. My foster parents are happy the squeaker broke and I don’t care that it doesn’t make noise anymore, I still like to carry it around. If you throw one of my toys I will bring it back to you and wait for you to throw it again.

I’m a good a house guest and haven’t destroyed anything. I am fully house trained and let you know when I need to go out. I bark if I hear another dog outside (or on the TV) but quickly stop when I’m told to stop. I’m learning new things every day! I have learned how to sit and stay and am working on down. Most of all I’m working on learning how to control all of my energy. At night I sleep in my crate and am learning that it’s a safe place to be. I get a treat every time I go in my crate, so it’s not so bad. I also go in my crate while my foster parents are away from the house. Sometimes I cry when I’m in my crate and I know you are leaving me but I quickly stop. I’m working on this but I just love people so much I want to be around you all the time! I follow my foster parents around the house and will sit at their feet while they do the dishes, barge into the bathroom uninvited, and cuddle with them on the couch. I just want all the love and affection I can get.

I have been thoroughly checked out by the vet and given a clean bill of health. I am a bit too skinny though and need to put on some weight. My foster parents are trying to get me to eat more kibble. I love the wet food but it’s not nutritious enough for me (or so they say), I guess I have to eat the healthy stuff…

I would be a good dog for a family willing to give me lots of attention, walk me, and play with me as I have lots of energy. Currently, I go on three 30 minute walks a day. I would also be suitable for a family with another friendly dog. It would be great if I had another dog to play with to help keep my energy under control! I’m not being fostered in a home with children but my foster parents think I would be fine with children over the age of 8. Younger children might get me too excited. If I go to a home with children it will need to be to a family that has had dogs before and are capable trainers. I am absolutely friendly enough for kids and to be a family dog, but I am a happy and excitable terrier so could get easily over stimulated around kids that are excitable and don’t know to be calm around dogs. When I get too excited I get bouncy and like to play nip. My foster parents are teaching me that this is unacceptable but it’s a process. I am very smart and learn new things quickly but this also means that I try to push boundaries; I am a terrier after all!! My new family will need to continue my training.

I am a joyful dog who has never had a bad day. I smile and wag my tail constantly. I am active and need an active family to keep me busy. As much as I like a cuddle at the end of the day, I expect my days to be busy. If you are a couch potato I won’t be a good fit for you, sorry! I like adventure and seeing the world around me and experiencing new things!!! I am looking for a family who has had a dog before and is experienced in dog training as I have so much more to learn and experience. I am a typical terrier so can be stubborn and require a confident leader. I am looking for people committed to taking me to training school so I can be at my very best. Even though I’m small my rescue people say I need to be trained and socialized properly just like a bigger dog, and I agree! I will be your very best friend and eager companion in all things fun and outdoorsy. I would be thrilled to find my forever home. Is that with you?
