About The MuttShack Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

About Our Pups in Poverty Program:
There are approximately 23 million pets living in poverty in the U.S. today. Of those, an estimated 80% are unaltered and 70% have never seen a veterinarian. These pets in poverty are the most likely source of unwanted litters which are given away or sold and then become the pets entering local shelters. (Pets for Life data).

The MuttShack Animal Rescue, work with shelters and rescues in underserved areas to rescue mom's and their puppies. We making sure the moms and pups receive critical natal care and vaccinations against devastating diseases, as well as getting them spayed/neutered, and socialized and placing them in homes, ending the cycle of breeding and poverty. We also continue to provide food, vaccines, medications and ongoing support.

Our puppies are rescued from impoverished, unsafe and unsanitary conditions, under houses, wood piles, back-yard junkyards, alleys and living under cars. When we find them they are riddled with fleas and ticks and living on scraps and leftovers. We take them in, clean them up, test for Parvo, vaccinate, deworm and de-flea and tick, and put them on quality food.

Please consider becoming a sustainable donor. http://muttshack.com/sustainable-donation-support/

THE HISTORY OF OUR FOUNDERS:
KATRINA DISASTER RESPONSE
In 2005 our founders stepped up to provide disaster care and response and mass evacuation transportation services for disaster stricken animals.

Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita they established the only free full-service triage facility within the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana and rescued and provided critical care to over 3000 animals.

NOT WITHOUT OUR PETS
Beginning in April 2006 they began lobbying for an evacuation plan that included pets. Lobbying and planning for future disaster response mass evacuation in cooperation with Louisiana local and state authorities as well as Federal agencies including the USDA/APHIS and FEMA.

LARGEST PET EVACUATION IN US HISTORY
Hours before Hurricane Gustav hit Louisiana in 2008 Our Founders, (under contract with the State of Louisiana), and it's evacuation partners successfully executed the largest mass evacuation of companion animals in US history. They provided 105 pet evacuation trucks and vans with a total capacity of 16,000 animals. With volunteers fully FEMA credentials assisted in this successful evacuation. For the first time people and animals left the state "TOGETHER".

LOBBYING AND EVACUATION PLANNING
The Founders continued to provide evacuation planning and assisted local, state and Federal authorities including the City of New York, South Padre Island, TX and several counties within Washington State in the planning and execution of disaster response strategies, procedures and campaigns.

COME VISIT OUR PUPS AND CELEBRATE OUR RAINBOW ADOPTION FAIR!

Our dogs are snuggled in little cribs for you to enjoy. We encourage you to come snuggle, treat and walk our doggies or enjoy some playtime or a play date in our training room.

Most adoptions are simple, completed the same day requiring an application, contract and interview before taking the pet home. All big breed dog pups require mandatory training.

Our adoption fees are $350 - $650 covering aggregate medical expenses. Our dogs are treated for any existing medical conditions, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and come with a free vet visit. Puppies qualify for free puppy playtimes three times a week!

Adopting families must demonstrate a strong commitment to their new dog's well-being regardless of what physical or behavioral challenges they currently face and must commit by written contract to provide all the care, love, exercise, training, socialization and attention the pet will need for the rest of its life.
