My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update April 26th: after a little more than 48 hours, Lacie is now settling in at her foster's home and trusting her foster mom! In fact, she is quite the snuggle bunny and starved for attention, affection and play! Walks though - not so much/too scary out there for sweet, shy Lacie!

Lacie is considered "special needs" because she is so stressed out and scared (confused, perhaps?) from having been brought into the shelter on April 15th as a stray or homeless dog. She was at the county shelter for approx. 10 days and then we rescued her. She is a very smart and sensitive girl and even more adorable in person, if that is even possible.

At this time, we are seeking a foster or temporary home for Lacie, and one that will most likely end up adopting her after we have both our veterinarian and behaviorist evaluate her.

Lacey's ideal foster home is probably one without any children, frequent visitors and definitely someone who doesn't travel or go on trips hardly at all! Lacie seems to need a structured, stable lifestyle or home and to learn to trust a human or two! We are still trying to get to know her, but in the mean time, here is what the shelter staff had to say about her:

This sweet girl needs rescue because she is fearful at the shelter.

Lacie is an approximately 1-year-old intact female Corgi mix weighing 20 lbs. She was brought in as a stray, but sadly, no one came to claim her.

When I approached her kennel, she ran away to the back of her kennel. After I kneeled next to her kennel door and tossed her some cheese, she slowly came to the front. After a couple minutes, she was taking cheese right from my hand. Unfortunately, she was absolutely terrified when we left her kennel, but with the help of lots of encouragement and happy talk, we made it to the office. Once inside the office, she became a completely different dog. When I sat on the floor with her, she immediately ran into my lap and was giving kisses on my face. She also loved to rest her head on my shoulder and snuggle into my neck. Loud noises and fast movements could be a bit scary, but cheese helped her feel more brave.

During her behavior evaluation, she wedged herself into the back corner of her kennel. They were able to leash her, but she refused to walk out of her kennel. Rescue was requested due to the fearfulness.
