Rosie's Story...

Rosie is an owner surrender to a shelter where she lived outside in rural Virginia, but very much likes her new indoor dog life! She is about 1.5 y o. She is a sweet, friendly girl. Rosie was a little shut down from all the changes in her life, but she has come out of her shell with a personality of playfulness, happiness, and joy. She does need continuing confidence building.

She has been evaluated by a certified behaviorist/trainer. Her findings are as follows:

  • she is sweet and people focused
  • she was uncomfortable with forced handling (holding and touching feet) but very tolerant and accepting
  • she needs work on conditioning and given space to choose contact and not forced to interact, she will demand attention and contact when wanted
  • loves attention and petting, seeks human for assurance and when anxious
  • not food motivated, but will accept food and treats
  • likes toys
  • seems ok with dogs, but will need slow introduction and time
  • high risk for separation anxiety, showing some signs now. Can correct with appropriate conditioning

The adoption contract requires training with one of TRD's approved trainers.

Interested adopters may submit an adoption application on the website at http://www.trainingrescues.org/adoptprocess.html

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Rosie, a Alexandria German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Alexandria, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Alexandria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Alexandria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Alexandria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Alexandria paves the way for another one to be saved.
