My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hannah is a special girl that is looking to find a forever home where she can feel that she is loved and wanted. Once you have earned her trust, and with people she knows, she is very loving and greets you with kisses and tail wags. We believe Hannah to be approximately 5 years old and she currently weighs approximately 65 lbs. In her short life she has been tossed around, ended up in a shelter, was rescued and adopted, then unfortunately returned due to her inability to adjust and fear of living or being near large trucks.

Although she is aloof with people she doesn’t know, she is never aggressive and has no issue with people coming up and petting her. Although fine with both genders, she does appear to prefer males over females. In her foster home she was living with other dogs and cats and got along well with everyone. She was introduced to children including a 2 year old with no issues but we would prefer at this time that she go to a home with adults only where she can get the attention she craves and deserves. If she is going to be left alone in the home for long hours, another respectful canine friend would be good as well. It would be best if the other dog was not too young and/or a dog that would be constantly bugging at her. Having a dog that would overwhelm her from the first day might not be the best.

Hannah is very well behaved in the home. She doesn’t go on furniture, is never destructive and doesn’t beg for food. She always wants to be near you whether you are washing dishes or working on your computer. It doesn’t appear that anyone has ever taught her basic commands but that may be because she is just so easy to live with. She would do well with someone that would work on her skills such as sit, down, etc.

Hannah is a great companion in many respects. She is generally very quiet in the home and just wants to be with her people doing whatever they are doing. She is completely house trained. She has been left for a normal working day with no issues other than she will bark for a bit when you first leave but settles quickly. She has never been destructive or gotten into anything she shouldn’t. When we get home she greets us lovingly with a wagging tail. She is afraid of the crate and I would imagine she comes by that honestly and in reality, there is no issue with her being left alone in the home so there should be no need to crate her.

Unfortunately for Hannah, and from what we have experienced with her, she is terrified of large trucks. The sound of air brakes causes her absolute terror. There was a large flatbed tow truck sitting beside our house and just the sight of it would cause her to become agitated. For this reason we feel that she definitely needs a home somewhere other than inner city Hamilton. She doesn’t necessarily need a country home but somewhere more suburban with less chances of constant truck traffic.

Her ideal home we feel would be with adults, in a loving home with a fenced backyard, with someone who is patient with her, calm and confident in their dealings with her. She would need someone that is willing to work at a respectful pace with her leash training and other basic commands, and someone who wants a dog as their companion and who she could develop a strong bond with.

If you feel that Hannah might fit well into your situation and you are willing to give this girl her chance for a happy future, please go to our main website at uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an application for consideration.
