Meet Cooper!
Meet Cooper, a 9 month old Border Collie/ Australian Shepard mix. Like most young working dogs Cooper is a bundle of energy and very intelligent. Cooper is potty trained and usually a polite little guy. We have started clicker training and he is learning the basics of sit, down, relax, off (the furniture), drop (the toy) and has shown a strong interest in frisbee.

Cooper likes most other dogs but sometimes tests their patience with his puppy energy and strong desire to play. He has not had much experience with cats or other animals. He is okay with new people if they do not rush him and a little reserved around men. Cooper sometimes has issues being touched by people he does not know. He loves attention and can be a snuggle bug at times. He is crate trained, but does not like being alone.

Cooper would thrive as an only dog or possibly with another herding breed. A single person or couple who are able to spend A LOT of time engaged in physical activities will bring out the best in Cooper. Someone who is familiar with the high energy and mental stimulation a herding dog needs and some experience training dogs would be ideal. Simple walks or a little play will not be enough for this bundle of energy. These dogs are highly intelligent and if that intelligence and energy is not put to constructive work, they can be very destructive.

As a herding dog and being young Cooper would not be a good fit with children under 16, or someone with limited time or space.

Cooper is an amazing jumper so a yard with a higher than average fence is recommended. I have seen him jump 5' high from a stand still. Cooper is smart and full of energy and enthusiasm, he has tremendous potential with the right person.

If Cooper sounds like your kind of dog, please fill out an adoption application at caninecupids.org.

Cooper's adoption fee is $300 and he is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
