Diesel's Story...
Diesel is a big 94# male with a wonderful personality. He is used to regular walks (with a gentle leader). He likes laying on the couch or the bed with you or just being draped across your lap for some loving but is very energetic for an 8 year old boy. He is a bit overweight so we are working on reducing his treats and calorie intake. He arrived at DLRR with Shasta when his dad was suddenly killed. Both he and Shasta are slowly coming around and acclimating to their new foster home but do require some extra love and attention. Their former owner was retired and was home most of the time, so an ideal home would have someone home for part or most of the day. He gets along very well with other dogs but we don't know about cats. (he seemed interested when he saw one, but not aggressive) He is a bit of a counter surfer as well. He is ok in the kennel and has been trustworthy in the house otherwise. He knows how to use a doggie door and he had a pool at his old home. Since he is a big guy, small children would not be a good fit as he could knock them over. Medically, he is doing well! He has a few lumps on him that have been checked and are fatty, but they will need to be monitored in case they grow. Diesel will be adopted out only as a pair with Shasta.

If you are interested in this dog, please fill out an application at www.DLRRphoenix.org. Someone will call to schedule a home visit so you can become an approved adopter. Also, visit our wonderful Facebook page at www.facebook/desertlab. Thanks!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Diesel, a Phoenix Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
