My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Handsome Hans! This amazing young guy has been through quite a bit in his short life, but you would never know it- he's always happy, he loves everyone and he spreads pure joy wherever he goes. He's a 3-legged, 70 pound German Shepherd that's 2 years old. He was rescued off the reservation in December. He had a home, but he lived outside and wandered off frequently getting himself into trouble every now and then. He really enjoyed digging in other folk's trash and trying to charm the ladies with his cool swag and stunning looks! His antics got him picked up by the local doggie police a few times and eventually his owners stopped paying his fines and picking him up. In January, he had a scary 36 hours where a clostridia myonecrosis infection produced a very large abscess under his hip bone. It was quickly killing his muscles and tendons, so to save his life, our vet amputated the leg. Within hours of the surgery, he felt SO much better and has since been given a clean bill of health!

Hans is now ready for his forever home and we are looking for a few very specific things. A home with a yard, no small dogs, and no cats is going to be best. Hans has to be kept at a healthy weight as he is supporting his very large frame on just three legs. He needs regular exercise to keep his remaining hind leg strong and fit. He is a dog that truly brings joy to everyone he meets, so we would love to find someone interested in doing therapy work with him. Hans is happy as can be to play with a big doggy friend, carry a stuffed toy in his mouth, play ball in the yard, go for a ride in the car, then snuggle with his humans.

Hans is house trained, crate trained, neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $350.00. If you think you may be the perfect candidate to give Hans an amazing forever home, please fill out and submit our adoption application. It can be found at happytailsaz.org.
