My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BERT (TENNESSEE )

Updated Bio 10/31/2017: Bert is a 6-year-old, 12 pound Morkie (Maltese/yorkie mix) being fostered in Ashland City, TN. Bert lived his life in squalor and neglect. A concerned citizen called law enforcement to report suspected neglect. Soon law enforcement arrived and was stunned to find over 350 animals living in terrible conditions. A large-scale rescue operation involving the Humane Society of the United States, several animal welfare agencies, local rescues and shelters was launched. Bert and hundreds of other animals were seized and transported to various shelters and agencies for emergency care. Covered in urine and fecal matter, infested with fleas, ticks and intestinal parasites, plagued with severe skin, eye and ear infections, and deprived of adequate food and clean water Bert and the others began to receive the care they so desperately needed. Fortunately, many of the younger and healthier dogs were able to receive basic care and be adopted out directly. However, Bert has special needs and could not be placed up for general adoption. They reached out to united Yorkie Rescue to continue to work with Bert and find him the perfect loving home to give him the future he deserves after what he has been through.

Foster mom originally thought that Bert would need to be adopted with Ernie, whom he was surrendered to United Yorkie Rescue with. They found comfort in one another. However, over the six months they have been in Foster Moms Home she has noticed that they have grown independent and will socialize with the other dogs in the home. .Bert needs a forever home that has love and compassion to help him continue to make progress and allow them to experience how to be a loved and cherished members of the family. Bert still gets nervous meeting new people and riding in a car. He enjoys being in the comforts of his own home. Bert has medication that he can take as needed to help him when he does have anxiety. Bert has a heart murmur and will need to be on medication for the rest of his life. Bert has made tremendous progress, but is still learning how to enjoy being petted, walk well on a leash, he will go potty on wee wee pads and outside , but will still mark the house , for that reason Bert wears a belly band when Foster Mom isn’t home . Bert also enjoys sleeping with Foster Mom. He does not like being crated due to the many years of living in one.
