Fostered in Cocolalla, ID

Hi there friends! My name is Klondike and I’m a sweet male lab of about eight years. I came to Power of the Paw recently when my owner elected to let me go so that I could receive the vet care that I needed. They certainly loved me, but they could not afford the surgery that I needed to have my ears repaired. I was a bit on the thin side and kind of worn around the edges.  I was definitely in need of some TLC, and my foster mom has been giving me just that!
My only serious issue is my poor little ears had extensive hematomas in them. I asked the vet to explain to me what a hematoma was, and she told me that it’s when a pool of blood gathers up under the skin causing swelling and pain. In most cases, especially ones like mine, the hematoma needs to be drained and then sutured closed. They do bleed quite a bit and take a while to heal, so I’ve been having to ask people to speak up so I can hear them through my thick bandages. I am healing quite well and I should be able to have all my dressings removed soon. My ears might end up a little crinkly because if the scarring that hematomas can leave behind, but I will be as good as new.
I have been trying hard to get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, and I’m doing decently, but I do prefer a slow introduction to other dogs. At this point in my life, I like to enjoy every part of life at a nice slow pace, and I’m not the type to just fall head over heels for any old dog anyway. It would certainly be beneficial to the both of us if you are prepared to give me time to adjust to any other animals in the house. I have lived with cats in the past too, and I don’t think I’d mind to continue to do so at all.
I really love people, and even at eight years old, I don’t mind spending time with the little ones either. As long as they promise that they won’t do anything too wild, like jumping right on me from the back of the sofa, or pull on my tender ears, I will give them all my love. Of course I also love adults, and I am a pretty easy going house pet.  I am already house trained, and I can be crated if need be, but I am pretty respectful of the house.
If you think that you might be the perfect person for me, please do apply at www.powerofthepaw.org. I could make a wonderful addition to almost any family, and now that I’ve received the vet care that I need, I deserve nothing more than to find the perfect place to live my life. Thank you so much for reading about me and making the choice to adopt rather than shop. Animals like me are so thankful!
