Thanks to Ugly Mutts’ caring community of dog lovers we were able to rescue this girl and get her the much needed medical attention she required. She is now healthy and ready to find her new home. She is approximately a year old, a lot of fun, and friendly with everyone. She currently weighs approximately 32 lbs.
Here is what her foster family had to say:
Butter cup is a GREAT dog! She bonds very quickly to you and wants to be right with you in whatever you are doing. She is not hyper but is busy and active, either out in the yard, chewing on her Kong, playing fetch, going on a long walk/run or watching you to see what you are doing. I could see her doing well in a dog sport like agility or even a jogging companion. Don’t let her short legs deceive you, she likes to be on the go! She is affectionate, smart and attentive, with a strong desire to please.
Buttercup underwent surgery to remove a bladder stone. The vet had mentioned that it could have been due to something foreign such as a piece of grass getting into her bladder which then caused a stone to form around it however, to be on the safe side, it is advised that she be on a urinary SO diet (which is a kibble that can be bought at most vet clinics). She is said to be a year and I think that is right. She isn’t a puppy but she is young and playful, even a bit mouthy when she plays. Butter cup is not a couch potato, although she would like to snuggle on the couch with you! I’d place her at moderate energy because she is not hyper, but I’ve also had her on a big walk/run everyday and a game or two of fetch with her tennis ball. We are also a busy home and she loves being a part of it all. After a big walk or run she is happy to curl up and sleep. She definitely needs her daily outlet to spend her energy.
She has been around people from ages 2 to 82 and has been friendly with them all. She enjoys my kids and isn’t possessive about her toys. She seems to play appropriately with the different ages she meets. Generally she is confident and curious when meeting people although she will bond closely to her owners. She has been good with our dog. They met well and there wasn’t any nastiness. Our dog is 12 so they don’t really match each other well energy wise but, they do play together sometimes and wrestle throughout the day and I think Buttercup would love to have a four legged sibling who likes to play. Buttercup gets fed in her crate to avoid any food issues. I haven’t seen her around a cat up close. She shows interest in them when we pass them on walks but not in an aggressive way. She does enjoy chasing things that move. She does tend to bark or growl when we pass a dog on the street, again there is that Terrier confidence shining through. But she has met and played wonderfully well with several friendly dogs and there hasn’t been any problems.
We have only left her for a few hours at a time. She loves to chase anything that moves including balls and squirrels. She loves to go on big walks and runs. She also likes to sit close to you and be petted. If you would allow her, she would like to snuggle up on the couch or bed. She likes to give kisses. She loves to chew on her toys. She enjoys sitting outside in the sun on the deck. Buttercup is a fairly quiet dog. She will bark a little if someone comes to the door or if she hears something in the yard.
Buttercup is very well mannered. She is very smart and learns your expectations quickly. She is short and does tend to put her paws up on you so you can pet her. She doesn’t beg at all during cooking or meal time. She seems happy to chew on something in her crate (door open) when we are eating supper, or lay at our feet. It looks like Buttercup knows come, sit, down, give and beg. She could use a brush up on things for sure, but she could easily learn anything you wanted to teach, including tricks. Buttercup sits by the door when she wants to go out and looks at you. We are working to have her ring a bell when she needs to go out. Buttercup loves her crate and goes in there on her own if she wants to chew on her bone or just sleep undisturbed. We also close her in her crate if we are going out of the house and at night. Buttercup loves going for walks but does pull a bit. I found walking her in a harness helped a lot. She is highly trainable. She has good recall and comes as soon as she is called. She is Great in the car and is quiet and seems to enjoy it.
Buttercup is a people dog, she wants to be with you, snuggled up next to you and doing what you are doing. She needs a daily outlet for her energy and she is naturally curious, intelligent, busy and playful. She would get bored without proper stimulation. She would be fine in a lot of situations as long as they are active. If she is given a way to burn off some energy and then has some toys to play with at home, she will make a truly wonderful companion!
