Betty's Story...
Little Betty was born on April 14, 2017 to a beautiful yellow lab mix mama (mix of puppies is anyone's guess, but we are thinking possibly shepherd mixes in some of them. Mama is believed to possibly be a lab/golden retriever mix). We do not guarantee breed mix or adult weight/size, because we have no way of knowing these things for sure.

Mama Stoli was rescued from a high kill shelter in SC where she was going to be euthanized because she had a treatable parasite called heartworm. When we rescued her, she was just a bag of bones having been neglected for some time. We began her treatments to get her well, and Stoli began putting on weight nicely. However, while we though the weight was hers, she surprised all of us by delivering 9 beautiful babies on Good Friday! We had no idea she was pregnant, and neither did her vets who were treating her for heartworm! The puppies were all born healthy and strong, and the vets are very pleased with their growth and development and say they all look normal and healthy despite the odds against them.

In this photo, Betty is 4.5 weeks old. Betty has a different coat and look than any of her littermates and even her mother (mama is pictured in the third photo). We don't know too much about her distinct personality yet, but all the puppies are well socialized, and right on target as far as developmental markers go.

Betty and her siblings will be at an adoption event on Sunday, June 11 from 12pm-2pm at Petco, 545 Richie Hwy, Severna Park, MD. Our hope is that all nine puppies have approved adopters (in advance) who will come to meet their puppy in person that day! Applicants approved in advance of the adoption event will receive PRIORITY in selecting their puppy!

Betty and her siblings will not be ready for adoption until sometime between June 12 and June 26. At the time of adoption, all puppies will have received all age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, be spayed or neutered, and will have been started on flea and heartworm prevention.

Interested adopters please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an application. We urge you to email us rather than use online forms, as we have important information to communicate to you prior to applying. All adopters subject to reference checks, vet reference, home visit, and meet and greet with all household members. Adoption fee applies.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Betty, a Bowie Labrador Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Bowie, or seeking a Labrador Retriever puppy from a breeder in Bowie.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bowie already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bowie breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bowie paves the way for another one to be saved.
