Misha comes to us as a stray from MDAS.  She is thought to be approximately 5 years old and is a small girl, possibly 40 lbs.  This sweet, sweet girl unfortunately has many medical issues we have to deal with at the moment.  First, she developed a respiratory infection (kennel cough and/or pneumonia) at the shelter... secondly, she has a UTI and is peeing blood... third, she has ocular disease with a red and swollen right eye with mucopurulent discharge... last but not least, she has a rectal mass (see bottom right pic) which is red and inflamed.  The mass has been surgically removed and pathology results came back as a form of cancer called leiomyosarcoma... BUT the good news is that this type of cancer is only locally invasive with low potential for metastasis... therefore complete surgical excision of the mass (which is what we did), is considered curative! This is the best news we could have hoped for!!!

Despite all of these painful things, her tail didn't stop wagging and all she wanted was to be petted and loved. She seemed very submissive and rolled over to show us her belly for some belly rubs.  She is recovering from her respiratory infection, and is getting eye drops for her right eye.

Stay tuned and follow our Facebook page for updates on this sweetie.

About Bull Terrier Rescue of the Sunshine State

About Our Rescue Group...

We are an all-foster volunteer rescue organization of bull terrier lovers dedicated to rescuing bull terriers in crisis and finding them permanent homes. Bull Terrier Rescue of the Sunshine State is a new rescue, but we are old hands at rescuing bull terriers. Our volunteers have all played key roles at other bull terrier rescues and decided now was the time to begin our own.

Our goal is simple - save as many bull terriers as we can. Many of you know us already. We look forward to meeting those who don't. We don't relish the spotlight. It's the dogs that deserve to be front and center. Bull Terrier Rescue of the Sunshine State will put the bullies first.

We don't care how hard it is or how hopeless it may seem. We will not shy away from rescuing older bullies. We will not turn our backs on sick or injured bullies. It's the right thing to do.

Our success will ultimately depend on you. We will need fosters. We will need home checks and help with transport. We will need to fundraise to pay for dog food and vet bills. Lastly, we will need adopters. We can do this together. We need to do this together. These dogs deserve better. People have failed them. We will not.

We are now officially a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization as of 8/27/2015.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption form to be filled out, a home check to be done, and there is a nominal fee per dog to cover vetting, food, etc. All of our dog reside in foster homes and we decide when they are in optimal shape to be adoptable. Our dogs are not in kennels or boarding facilities. Each dog's adopt fee is decided per animal and per circumstance.
