My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60647
AGE: 8 years (Est DOB: 2009)
WEIGHT: 60lbs
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Yes

HISTORY:
Duke was surrendered to animal control by his family. He lived with children in his previous home.

ABOUT:
Duke is an amazingly sweet, snuggly, lovable, handsome dog. If Bradley Cooper and a teddy bear had a love child with mildly bad breath, you’ve got Duke. This dog LOVES people. Within milliseconds of meeting Duke, he will roll over for bellyrubs, lay his head on your lap, and fall asleep.
He’s great with other dogs, great with cats, and his previous owners said he was great with kids (we’ve tested him with dogs and cats but not kids because we don’t have any candy to lure them into the house). This dog has invented a new degree of housenbrokenness and has not had one single accident in his foster home, even when left alone all day and holding it all night.
Duke LOVES mealtimes. The sound of kibble in his bowl makes him wag his tail so hard his whole butt wiggles like a worm lost on a sidewalk on a rainy day. Once he sees his bowl of breakfast noms he does an actual, real-life Snoopy dance that’s so adorable it would break the internet if we ever posted it online so we can’t.
He also LOVES walks so much he can’t handle his own happiness and cries sweet little tears of glory when he sees his leash and you say “hey buddy, would you like to go for a walk?” He does need some leash training and has a tendency to pull and bark at other dogs and the occasional human (if their shoes don’t match their belt), but we believe he’ll be a quick learner since he’s eager to please and listens well to his foster humans.
He knows how to sit, lie down, and seems to understand “wait” and “leave it” pretty well too. When we have him “wait” at the front door to go out for a walk he makes eye contact to look for permission to leave, which is great doggie behavior.
If you think you are worthy of adopting such an amazing specimen of Canis familiaris, then you must first be willing to support his one strange quirk. He likes to poop on tree trunks. It makes for awkward conversation when you have to pick poo off your neighbor’s tree bark, but in the grand scheme of quirks, this one isn’t too weird.
