My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Posey is wrapping up raising a litter of puppies and will be available in a few weeks time. Yes, she is very beautiful, but is a special dog needing a special adopter.
She is bigger than the photos suggest and a small medium in size, around 24 lbs. She has been clipped down since the photos you see here and is starting to regrow her luxurious coat. She is a young girl, around two years old, who is sweet, gentle and affectionate. She is youthful, energetic and very playful. She comes out of a hoarding situation, however, where it is likely she never left the house. This has resulted in her being unused to most things, so she will need a patient introduction to the world as it is all very new to her.

Posey is not housebroken at this time but is good about using paper. She was initially gobsmacked by the outside, but with work is doing far better, learning to go on walks on the leash, and this is an important step towards her housebroken status. In the home she can be guardy against strangers (not aggressive, but she does put on a show) and barky to noises, and outside she can be quite timid. This is not likely an abused dog, and love and snuggles, while much appreciated, is not a cure all for her. She needs patience and steady integration into the real world, as she is a stubborn girl who needs to work things out in her own mind and make her own decisions. The right home for her will understand the principles of desensitization and have the time and patience for her. She is not a complicated dog, but she is very challenging.

THE RIGHT HOME for Posey should be up for a project and have an ample supply of patience and time. Due to her housebreaking challenges and barking propensity, she is ill suited to apartment life, and as she is mistrustful of children she cannot be adopted into a home with small kids. She will settle most quickly in a quieter home, would be happy to have a dog companion and is fine with cats, if not particularly interested in them.

For further information and to learn more about her, please contact Lucy at maramuser@gmail.com. Applications are available on our southpawsexpress.org website. Her adoption fee will be $450.
