My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

2 ½ year-old purebred male smooth Collie

Chance is a sweet 2 ½ year-old purebred male smooth Collie who came into the RMCSR network because of an owner relinquishment along with two other smoothies. He is 48# which is just a few pounds shy of his ideal weight. He is an attentive dog with a typical activity level and playfulness for his age. It does not seem that Chance had spent much time inside a house prior to coming here, but is learning quickly as he hears new sounds and has new experiences. He is doing well with our cats and our resident dogs.

Our pack is teaching him a great deal. There are many skills that are best taught from dog to dog. He was marking his territory but, after three weeks, is almost housebroken and does quite well on a leash. Chance prefers to come to people in his own time rather than have people approach him. He rides in a car quietly but it seems to make him both nervous and a little nauseous in the few trips we have taken so far. That should change with time and patience.

He is very gentle with adults and enjoys being petted. He needs more exposure to new noises to lessen his fears and he is skittish in new situations. We have only heard him bark a few times, but think that as he feels more comfortable, he will find his voice like most Collies.

Everyone who meets him for the first time falls in love immediately and wants to take him home with them. But the right family for Chance will come forward and he will help us to screen  potential applicants. We are looking for a family with prior Collie experience and humans who will take the time and have the patience to help him be all the dog he can be.

Chance has had all of the veterinary care that we provide for every dog. He has had a nose to tail physical and has normal blood work and urine. Being heartworm negative, he has been started on Interceptor, his monthly heartworm preventative, and is micro chipped with a Home Again chip. Chance had an abdominal procedure to look for one of his testicles because it was undescended.  He is recovering well.

If Chance sounds like the dog you have waited your whole life for, please fill out an adoption application to begin the process.  The link is on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org . Chance is waiting to hear from you.
