Barkley is a majestic adult male Hound/Catahoula Leopard Dog mix who arrived at the HSOV on January 30, 2017 after he was picked up on that cold wintry day while taking a brisk walk on State Route 676 in the Watertown Ohio area. The Washington County Dog Warden happened to be in the neighborhood and gave him a ride to the safety (and warmth) of our shelter. Unfortunately Barkley was not wearing any form of identification, and his family never came looking for him :(

Barkley has a beautiful coat which is uniquely marked. He has a Catahoula/merle pattern on his back, brown shading on his chest and legs, a long tail, and a stunning brown face with a slender muzzle and long floppy ears. Barkley has a super friendly personality and loves his people friends, but he does not tolerate cats in his world :( Barkley is not nice to kitties, and we would not trust him with cats :( :(

Barkley would love to find a family with an active lifestyle who would take him for long walks (perhaps make him a jogging partner or hiking companion) and give him the exercise and stimulation that he wants so badly. Barkley LOVES to spend time in our play yards with volunteers, and he is a world class tennis ball player!

He is a big boy who weighs approximately 70-75 lbs.and very strong on a leash.

Barkley was neutered on February 28, 2017 and was also given rabies vaccine.

These updated photos were taken on June 8, 2017 shortly after Barkley had played several sets of tennis ball with one of his favorite volunteers.

Barkley is available for adoption/foster/rescue by contacting the shelter (740.373.5959) or by sending an email to manager@hsov.org. Rescue groups may also contact our Canine Rescue Coordinator via email (cr_ridgway@yahoo.com). We can usually help with transportation.
