Gilbert ADOPTED!'s Story...

Gilbert is a young Treeing Walker Coonhound who is very friendly and full of energy--he loves to greet you with kisses!  He is very friendly with everyone, and appears to be quite comfortable around other dogs that are of medium to large size.  He does not do well with smaller dogs or cats (some Hounds can consider them to be very chaseable).

Gilbert's Foster Parents say "He is a wonderful little dog! He is brilliant and learns things very quickly....seriously he is VERY bright".  His foster parents also think he could be an Agility Superstar!!

Since his arrival in foster care, Gilbert has done very well with housetraining.  He can be exuberant around food -likely due to being starved (thus he would need supervision around small children with food -but biting is not a concern). Gilbert has learned to wait patiently in his crate to await mealtimes.  He is very easy to train due to his love of food and willingness to work for treats.

Playtime is Gilbert's favorite!  He LOVES-LOVES-LOVES other dogs, especially playing chase games, tug, and wrestling.  He is submissive with dogs and people.

Gilbert, and his mother Mona, came under the care of Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue in December 2013, after being contacted by a young woman from the Ottawa region who came to the aid of a pair of stray Coonhounds desperately looking for shelter and a second chance. Despite a past that lacked security, comfort and human companionship, these are especially sweet dogs, willing to trust and respond to the smallest act of kindness. You can read more about their initial story from Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue Facebook Page:

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Gilbert ADOPTED!, a Ontario Treeing Walker Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Treeing Walker Coonhound for sale in Ontario, or seeking a Treeing Walker Coonhound dog from a breeder in Ontario.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Ontario already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Ontario breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Treeing Walker Coonhound breeders who help with Treeing Walker Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Ontario paves the way for another one to be saved.
