My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Cali" is a pretty, approx 60-lb, 5-yo (born approx Jan 2012) spayed female GSD who is healthy, happy, and always ready to love and play with people and her doggy buddies. Cali is highly protective of her house and people, but is friendly with visitors when her family signals that they’re OK with them. Cali loves children and is not satisfied until she kisses every kid she meets.

Cali gets along well with the male Corgi and female GSD she lives with. She is not an extremely dominant dog, but not submissive either; she should not be paired w/ an alpha female. Cali did great w/ several of the dogs at GSRSV’s rescue ranch when I evaluated her and her "sister" Ruby in March 2017.

Cali is an unknown with cats, so we will not consider a home w/ cats for her.

Cali is fully housetrained and very well-behaved inside. She can be left in the house for 9 hours or more without any problems. Cali is pretty good on the leash, but needs reminders to stay at her owner’s side. Her owners have been working with her to jog nicely on leash. Cali rides calmly in the car or in the back of a pickup truck.

Cali loves water and headed straight for the pond at GSRSV’s rescue ranch when she was here. (See elsewhere on this page for a video of Cali and Ruby romping and wading in the pond.) Cali is very playful and loves to wrestle, chase and play tug-of-war. She will chase after a ball, but is not great about bringing it back to you.

Cali’s owners Melinda and Rob adopted her at about 9 months old from the Shasta County Shelter. Though their family love her, both Melinda & Rob are now working full-time and they’ve realized that they don’t have the time to devote to both Cali and Ruby; plus, the two dogs tend to get into mischief if they get out of the house together. GSRSV has tried to find a home for Ruby since March 22, but Ruby has a partially torn ligament in one of her knees, making her less adoptable than Cali. So, now the plan is to rehome Cali and keep Ruby.

GSRSV has evaluated Cali and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Cali through its adoption program while her owners continue to care for her.

Cali is located in Red Bluff. Her adoption fee is $210.
