My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucky Luke.  This handsome senior is a male 12 year old smooth coated Border Collie with a docked tail.  Luke’s original name was Lucky, and BCIN decided he needed a new beginning.  Luke was dumped by his uncaring owners at the LA County Shelter because he’s old and they didn’t want to deal with him anymore.  Had it not been for BCIN, Luke certainly would have faced dying alone in a shelter not understanding what he had done to deserve such a cruel fate.

Upon first meeting Luke, our observations were what a sweet and beautiful soul this dog has.  He is very affectionate, and leans right into you.  He loves belly rubs and to have his back scratched.  He is partially deaf, yet he does hear some loud noises.  His eyes are clouding a bit, which is typical of when a dog ages.  However, this ole boy has no problem getting around and has quite a bit of energy for his age.  When he was neutered, he was treated with a dental cleaning and all of his teeth are in good shape.  Luke walks well on a leash, travels well in a car, and gets along with other dogs.  Luke is looking for that special home where he will begin the next part of his journey.  He will be a loyal and faithful companion, one that you can curl up and watch TV with.  He wants to have that close bond with his person, and deserves that after what happened to him. Luke deserves to be a pampered pooch in the twilight of his years.

Please open your heart and home to adopting a senior. BCIN takes in more than a fair share of the senior BCs, as it is fact that adoption rates in the shelter are reduced significantly once a dog reaches 5 years of age. BCIN was Luke’s only hope of making it out of the shelter and we gladly welcomed him into our rescue program with open arms. Luke will be adopted under our senior program. This means we reduce our adoption fee significantly so that he can find a loving home where he can spend the rest of his golden years.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
