My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Louie is a 5 year old, 25 pound Lhasa Apso, who came to MMR as an owner surrender in 2017. He has been with MMR for a little over a year. We have had a great deal of interest in Louie, but he is a special boy who needs a very special home. In his previous life and in his current foster home, he has been shy and scared. He is an adorable dog who garners a great deal of attention.....and everyone falls in love with his 'good looks'.  Louie is a nice dog, but needs to be in a home with no children and a very experienced dog person who has a lot of patience and resources.   He will come to you on his terms, but is very slow to trust.  We have no idea what happened to Louie in his past life, only that it has made him very cautious. He does not have a bite history, however he does not react well to new environments or people, and will growl.   He is with an experienced foster parent now, and they understand his signals. He must be sedated to be groomed, and must be handled by an experienced vet.

Louie is definitely not a lap dog at this time.  He does not show interest in toys and likes to sleep in his own bed, not with a person or another dog.  He is fine with other dogs, and seems to like having another canine companion around, but doesn't want to play, or share his bed. Anyone adopting Louie MUST give him space and lots of time to become comfortable in a new home.

This little man is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and tested negative for heartworm, Louie is looking for a family that understands his temperament and has the resources to help him feel safe and loved. Please let us know if you have any questions about handsome Louie or if you are interested in meeting him or bringing this adorable little man home.  Anyone interested should submit an application. Once that has been reviewed and approved, we can arrange a meet up.  His foster parent is happy to answer any questions approved applicants may.

My adoption fee is $300, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable.

You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website:

MMR covers the vet care, food, and tools to get started. You supply the love. Fostering saves lives. Sometimes a foster home is the only thing standing between life and death.
