My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We do not adopt dogs just from phone calls or emails. Please do not fill in adoption forms anywhere else, but on OUR web site. Thanks for that.

To start our adoption process, please fill out our form on our web site at: www.spokanewienerdogs.org and see the Adopt a Dog/Fee page with more details on how we adopt our dogs. There are a lot of questions answered on our web site and personality details below about each dog BELOW so please READ BEFORE getting in touch. We already answer 500+ emails a day. We do answer questions on dogs once our adoption paperwork is filled in so we can match to the right homes.

Please indicate which dog you are interested in on our adoption form. If their name says "pending home" then they are not available and are on a test drive with a new family. We do remove our dogs when our adoptions are final so please do not ask us if dogs are available if you see their ads.

There is an adoption fee of $200 for this dog.

Ernie is a 10 year old active standard. He chewed through some wood fencing to hunt cats in his neighborhood so leaving him alone in the yard is not a good idea with a dog this smart. Ernie is an easy going happy boy with a high prey drive so no cats, ferrets, chickens, etc. in his new home. He is your typical standard about 22 pounds but we have wormed him and feeding him a lot so he gains more weight. He loves zooming outside and sitting in laps inside.

Even though this is a true hunting dog with cats, he is amazingly charming with people so no worries there. I think his best home would be with medium or bigger sized dogs because he thinks he is a big one already.

He is housebroke and a great lap buddy for watching movies. Ernie is crate trained for when folks are sleeping or running errands or working.

Most standard dachshunds are highly intelligent and loyal which is exactly why they are our favorites when we get this size to the rescue.

If you do not have a secure yard or people there in the home who will not keep fences secure and gates closed then this is not your boy. Teenagers and above is suggested in his new home so this one does not sneak out to go hunting or folks who can out think this very smart, charming boy. All garbage cans must be secure as well. LOL.
