My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dorothy: 8-year-old female chocolate Lab mix 50 lbs

I don’t think I am in Kansas anymore… One day I was found running along a road in Contra Costa County… and then, poof, in a whirlwind I landed in the local animal shelter and then off to a lovely foster home where I am being treated like a queen.

What Dorothy’s Foster says:

Dorothy has experienced a remarkable recovery, bouncing back from near starvation, severe dermatitis and pneumonia to be her lively and curious self. She seems to be a mix, we're guessing with border collie, and she got the best of both breeds. She is affectionate like a Lab, but has no interest in garbage or counter surfing. She loves to play ball and would happily to do so all day. Dorothy is well trained -- she asks to go out, walks beautifully on leash, and responds to commands like "sit" and "leave it." She is not a demanding dog -- she seems to be grateful just to have 2-3 short walks per day. Paws down her favorite activity is riding in the car -- with the window down all the way, please. She's friendly to other dogs (and cats) but not very interested. This is a dog who would be fine in many different situations -- she could live in a house or an apartment, with a family or a senior. The first word that everyone uses to describe her is -- sweet!

What Dorothy’s Rescue Rep says:

Chipped, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations… but still needs to be spayed. Dorothy is currently rebounding from a bout with pneumonia – we expect a full recovery… She is also restoring her skin and coat after dermatitis. Fine with other dogs and cats. Dorothy is a treasure. She is located in Berkeley.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
