Hello there:

Name’s Gibby and I’m not much of a talker, but I figured if you were interested in making me part of your family, you would probably want to know a few things about me.

I’m a 5 year old Redtick Coonhound and I’ve been told I’m quite handsome.  Although I was a stray I quickly figured out how to be a good house guest, going out side when nature calls, staying out of things when I’m left alone.  In fact, I quite like just finding a comfy place to sleep while I wait for my people to come home.

I like to go for walks and play at the dog park.  Occasionally some dogs get my dander up, but I’m a lover not a fighter so we figure it out and soon we are having fun.  Other dogs in my home are fine too, as long as they don’t put their nose in my bowl, but hey, who wouldn’t get a little put out about that?  Cats I’m good with – they smell interesting but not enough to chase.

Do you have a car?  Anywhere you want to go – I’m all about the car!  And boat rides are fun too, just don’t expect me to jump in.  Swimming is for labs

I’m a huge snuggler, and a loving and happy guy but when I'm tired and sleeping, I like to be left alone.  No hugs, or petting as I wake up startled and can be a bit grouchy.  Just like you probably wouldn't like a person waking you out of a deep sleep....neither do I.  Even though I like the little ones. they tend to move fast and forget to let sleeping dogs lie so my guardians have decided that the best home for me would not have children under 12.

So why is a great guy like me looking for a new family?  Well, my current guardians are expecting their first baby and I am having a hard time letting people around the lady, even her husband.  I was fine until the pregnancy, but I’ve become overprotective and can’t seem to stop guarding her.  I’m ok with everyone when she isn’t around ‘cause I really do like everyone.

So, there's my story. We all have a past, and that's what makes us who we are today.  I’m hopeful there is someone out there who will love me for my quirks and let me love them for theirs.

Anything else you need to know?  Well, all you got to do is fill in an application so you can talk to these nice folks at Gentle Jake's about me; then maybe we can get to know each other in person.  I’ll be waiting.

Please Note:   We are all volunteers and busy taking care of our foster dogs so please take the time to fill out our on-line adoption application if you are interested in more information about any of the hounds that we have for adoption. Filling out our application does not obligate you to adopt in any way.  It does, however, help us to determine if the dog that your interested in would be a good match for your family and lifestyle.

All of our dogs are fully vetted.  They have been vaccinated, altered, microchipped and heartworm tested and on prevention.

About Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue is a small, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the memory of my beloved coonhound Jake. Our volunteers are dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned coonhounds find loving and permanent homes as indoor pets. We are based and operate in Ontario. We have been rescuing these wonderful hounds since 2003. We are also a member of Coonhound Companions where our goal is to educate the public about misconception that hounds do not make good family pets. We want to share our love of coonhounds with the whole continent, with hopes of inspiring dog lovers everywhere to consider adopting a coonhound.

Come Meet Our Pets...

If you would like to meet one of our hounds please contact us as they are located in foster homes throughout Ontario. We always in need of more foster homes. Please contact us to find out how you can help a coonhound today!

Our Adoption Process...

All adoptive homes are required to go through a screening process that includes a telephone interview, filling out an application, reference checks and a home visit. An adoption donation is required to offset some of the costs incurred in caring for and re-homing each coonhound. Bluetick Gentle Jake's Coonhound Rescue remains committed to each animal for the rest of its life and if, at any time and for any reason, the adoption does not work out, we require that the hound be returned to us.
