Here's what the humans have to say about me:
From his foster:
When Petey came and we gave him a bellyrub, he rolled back in wonder with a look we'd never seen, like "What is this? What is this...magic?" We spotted it a few other (food-related) times, and along with other things it made us wonder (not one bellyrub? Is that what that was?) if Petey's past wasn't so nice. And he's SO nice: gentle, always gazing lovingly at his foster sister, telling you he needs you, snoozing by your side. He's definitely part Shiba, with a whole repertoire of sounds only they make. His curlicue tail is adorable, maybe a tad beautiful in how it tapers into a calligraphy brush dipped just barely in black ink. His overbite lends his face a lovable, sometimes-goofy look when it peeks out. It makes us laugh and buys him many bellyrubs.
Petey SO loves bellyrubs that nearly every time a petting starts he rolls over A.S.A.P., and not just for the bliss--he clearly wants the trust, care, and comfort. Starting shy, with obvious fear, he came to us a guy whose emotions ran deep, but a love-craver can't stay shy long, and fear could never roughen his docile self. (RoughHOUSING, though? Active playmate preferred! Only affectionate need apply. Yard a BIG plus, work at home please, homebodies R awesome.) There's clearly abuse in Petey's past, so what this remarkably gentle guy needs most is the patient compassion he deserved, but was denied, when some unknown hurt visited his life as a young puppy. We adore him and are happy to give him our patience and care, but we also can't wait to see him roll over, offer up his trust, melt back with a far-off look that's a little funny with the overbite, and then head home to a future of love with somebody special enough to choose Petey and change his life.
