My story

Joey is basically a 70 pound love muffin. He will follow you from room to room just be in your presence. He will sleep next to your bed, lay near you while watching tv, and sit behind you while working in your home office. He has never shown any desire to get on the furniture - preferring to lay on the floor or occasionally his dog bed. He just wants to love you and gives rapid tail wags when you give love in return. He is fabulous with cats. Joey is 100% house trained. Knows sit, stay, and down (although that command is work in progress). He takes treats from your hand in a very gentle manner. Joey was rescued from a high intake rural outdoor shelter in Southeastern Missouri where he was on death row. There is no adoption program there, his only way out was to be rescued. Joey was provided life-saving treatment for heartworm disease. He will need to remain on heartworm preventative for life, as is recommended for ALL dogs, and retested in 6 months to ensure he is heartworm free. Dolly's Legacy is honored to have saved his life and have promised him a happy home. Joey has a tendency to develop skin allergies if he is not kept on a proper diet and getting regular baths. It is also recommended he get a Cytopoint injection every 1-2 months to keep his allergies at bay so he is looking and feeling his best.

Joey is a 4 yr old Chocolate Lab who currently weighs 75 lbs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed. Adoption fee is $350 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.

We are a foster-home based rescue group and do not have a facility. We are 100% volunteer staff. All communication is done via email AFTER your application has been submitted. Since all of our pets are in foster homes and not a facility, we hold adoption appointments once a week on either a Saturday or Sunday, during scheduled time period. We need ALL family members or those living within your home, to be present for an appointment. Preference is given to those with a verifiable veterinary reference and home ownership, although generally not required. Home ownership is verified through court records.
