My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ruthie has been "in the system" for a year now! Her foster mom passed away on Sunday, March 18th, and she is in urgent need of a new foster home, or better yet, a forever home!

We caught up with her for a quick interview, to see how she is holding up, and to learn more about her, in hopes that her forever home may be reading!

SO, TELL US, HOW OLD ARE YOU?

It's hard to say... I think I'm probably around 4 or 5 in people years? Human years are such a weird thing!

NO OFFENSE, BUT HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH THESE DAYS?

Don't you know to never ask a lady their weight?! I know, I know, I've put on a few pounds since I got myself a foster home... But it's nothing the right forever family and a few adventures can't fix! ((Off the record.. around 60#))

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR ALONE TIME?

Well, I really don't like being caged... I kind of take it as a challenge and have been able to bust out of the wire crates AND the airline crates so far! Ha. So now I just spend my time relaxing in a bedroom all to myself, and do a little bit of "redecorating"... I really enjoy pulling stuff out of the closet to make the softest bed possible.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT OTHER DOGS?

Mostly, I like other dogs. As long as they're not bullies or super high strung. I also don't like when they want to act like fools and bark at me! Just chill out a bit! Sheesh ;) I like someone I can relax with, but who likes to have a good time and horse around. Those little ones though... they sure do remind me an awful lot of cats... and puppies... well, they're just way too much for me! EXHAUSTING!

SO... DOES THAT MEAN YOU'RE NOT FOND OF CATS?

Well... I haven't actually met a cat up-close and personal. But, when they tried to introduce me to one, it made me get all worked up. I think they would be a hoot to chase 'em around though! I bet I can totally out run them.

WHAT ABOUT KIDS? YOUR FOSTER FAMILY HAS SOME, RIGHT?

I think I prefer older kids... you know, the ones that know to treat animals respectfully. I don't really like all the chaos and screaming of the little ones, and I definitely don't want to be jumped on or tugged at.

You see, I have a little gimp in my giddy-up (I know, you probably didn't even notice!) and not often, but some days, it does bother me and I can get a little crabby. They think I was hit by a car, and that's how I ended up at the ER vet a year ago... I can't really remember though, it all seems like such a blur from back then. But anyways, it's likely I have a little nerve damage or something in my back leg.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR BEST QUALITIES ARE?

Well, I know my pictures don't do me justice... I'm just not into that whole "selfie" thing, but I am pretty darn good looking. I'm also super loyal. I don't totally hate baths. I'm pretty good about car rides too. I am definitely not as much work as a puppy. OH! And I am told I am an "expert cuddler"! I can always keep people warm with my body heat. I'm never far away, and always have an ear to listen (and I won't tell your secrets!). They even say I'm like a boudler... that's a good thing, right?

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR WORST QUALITIES ARE?

Hmm, some people think it's a "bad" thing that I don't like cats, but who can really blame me? I mean, they poop IN THE HOUSE! And then walk all over everything. And they're definitely not as cool as dogs are.

I guess it can be kind of frustrating that I don't like the crate either, but would YOU want to be locked up in a jail cell all day?!

And there's that whole "small dogs" and "dominant dogs" thing too... but c'mon. A small dog is really just a cat in disguise... and who wants to hang out with a bully?!

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITIES?

I really like to mess with my foster sister! She's just so tolerant and I love trying to instigate her into playing with me. I do pretty well on outings, like hiking and exploring, but I do like the less crowded adventures better. I'm actually pretty "chill" though, and I don't mind bumming around the house.

I also really love to cuddle up on the couch or in bed with my people. Speaking of which, I could really use some people of my very own to give me a shot. My foster mom hasn't come home, and foster dad tries to take care of me, but I'm sad too and there's just a lot going on and I really think it's time for my forever family to find me already. Maybe they can help me grieve my foster mom and create new memories?

WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM FAMILY BE LIKE?

Hmm... I know I would like a home without cats! I'm sure I'd get myself into some trouble, because I just couldn't resist chasing them BOL Another dog my size or so would be awesome though! But I'd like them to be tolerant and nice, like me. And as for humans... well, I just want humans that will love me for me. Human siblings would be okay too, but I'd really prefer them to be older... then maybe they could take me out on adventures with them too!

Ruthie is scheduling one-on-ones! To meet her, please fill out an adoption application at www.rhar.org!

NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and usually inaccurate. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
