My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Costa is a 1 year-old neutered male black lab. Costa weighs 57 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 7 and up.

Costa must go to a home with another dog.

Jul 14, 2017: Costa has certainly come a long way. He is far more comfortable being outside with my dogs than at first and has adjusted to living in a house (which is where he actually prefers to be). He loves to sit on the couch with me and give me kisses at any given opportunity. He does still jump at loud noises and sometimes gets spooked but calms down more quickly now. He sleeps thru the night in his crate, gets along great with other dogs and likes and trusts my 7 year old son (but does prefer to be with me). He will do best in a home with a confident dog and a family that can be calm, understanding and willing to give him lots of love and affection while he builds his confidence.

Jul 1, 2017: Costa continues to come out of his shell and has been having fun this summer. He spent last week with a house sitter while his foster was out of town and did wonderfully with their puppy and toddler. He is still frightened by loud noises and looks to the other dogs in the house for his confidence but he has come a long way and is such a cutie patootie! Costa is a year old and weighs 60 lbs. Approved for kids 7 and up but requires a quieter location with at least one doggie friend and a fenced yard.

Jun 23, 2017: Costa is still doing great at his foster! He will still look for Oakley from time to time but enjoys the other dogs and the foster's young son so that keeps him busy. He has blossomed some but is still startled by loud noises and will take some patience. He is great in his crate and getting better on leash. He is super affectionate now and loves to give kisses and get a belly rub!

Jun 3, 2017: Costa and Oakley are now in two different foster homes and doing great. Costa is definitely the more shy of the two and will need another confident, playful dog in the household to show him the ropes. He is startled easily by loud noises (most likely because he was shot at some point 😩😡) but he is becoming quite the lover. He loves playing in the yard with other dogs and loves toys. He looks to his humans for reassurance also but is doing well. Costa is approved for kids 7 and up and loves his foster human brother. He does well on leash when walking with another dog to guide him but needs a little more work when walking alone. Costa is about a year old, but because of his timid nature is not a crazy puppy! What a sweet boy!

May 24, 2017: Costa and Oakley showed up at a nice person's house very scared. They tried to locate an owner then asked the shelter and subsequently the SPCA for help. We feel like they had been dumped and poor Costa still has a few pieces of buckshot in his body. (People...ugh) Costa and Oakley are friendly, energetic, fun boys! We have had them in foster for a while now and we feel they would love to stay together as they really love each other, but we will consider adopting to a home with another confident, playful dog as they do also really enjoy their fosters pups. They love people and are very affectionate. They have gorgeous, shiny coats and adorable faces and BIG feet!

Costa is the more shy of the two and he is really frightened by loud noises (probably because of the fact he was shot). He is good in his crate and has not had any accidents at the foster so far. Costa walks well on leash when walked with Oakley, or another dog, but needs a little more work when walking on his own. He loves other dogs and the foster's young son. No cat history but was scared of the cats at the vet LOL. Approved for kids 7 and up.
